After the enormous success of the crossover comic series in which the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles met Batman, it’s no surprise that both DC and IDW would want to keep the gravy train flowing. During SDCC, both publishers announced that they would be working together on another crossover series entitled Batman/TMNT Adventures. The art style may not be entirely familiar to fans of IDW, but anyone who remembers Batman: The Animated Series will be feeling a lot of nostalgia right about now. Heck, the logo for this new series looks a lot like the logo for Batman & Robin: The Animated Series!
Whether this stylistic choice is intentional or not, it would appear to be more of a reference than a connection to either series. The artist who will be working on this project is Jon Sommariva, who previously provided artwork for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Amazing Adventures. Sommariva has worked with both IDW and DC in the past, and his direct work on previous TMNT comics makes him an excellent choice for the art in this new crossover comic series. He will be joining forces with someone he had previously worked with on TMNT: Amazing Adventures, Matthew K. Manning.
Manning also worked on Beware the Batman for DC, making him an excellent choice for Batman/TMNT Adventures. It’s nice to see both DC and IDW choose two incredibly talented individuals for this project. If the early artwork provided here is any indication, this looks like it could be yet another amazing crossover; it also looks like a completely different take on the concept than what we’ve already seen from the previous Batman/TMNT comic series. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited to see what comes from this project when it is released later this year on November 9th.
