Fans of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Series were in for some big news during this year’s SDCC panel!
The fabled 1987 series is finally coming to Nickelodeon. Announced during Paramount’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” Hall H panel, Nickelodeon/Paramount has obtained global rights to all 193 episodes of original show.
With SAG and the WGA on strike, this year’s SDCC was a bit more scaled down and back to it’s roots. But Convention veteran and TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman was on hand to promote the new Mutant Mayhem movie, and everything else in the Turtle-verse. While there was a lot of excitement for the new Mutant Mayhem film, there was still plenty to get excited about for old school fans.
Kevin Eastman broke the news that the original show would likely be available on several of Paramount’s streaming services “By the end of the month.”
The original series was many people’s introduction to the the turtle brothers, and kicked off the global phenomena known as “Turtlemania.” It ran from 1987-1996 for 193 episodes and became a sensation that kicked off toys, movies, even more television shows for generations. All 193 episodes of the Fred Wolf series will be available on YouTube and Nickelodeon networks and streaming platforms soon. Yes, even the “Red Sky” season.
Stay tuned to Nickelodeon’s YouTube channel to see when the episodes go live! No word yet on if they will be coming to Paramount+, but it would be a great addition to the streaming service.
