Batman TMNT Crossover Sells Over 100,000 Copies in December

When it was first announced that the Ninja Turtles would be teaming up with the caped crusader in a comic book crossover series, fans were more than a little excited. This is a batman tmnt crossover! After all, the turtles had teamed up with groups like the Ghostbusters in previous crossovers, but they had never met a crime fighter as well known and beloved as Batman. The hype train never really died down, but when a slew of vendor exclusive covers were announced for the comic book series, it definitely picked up quite a bit just before the eventual release. Collectors love a good exclusive, and that’s probably one of the reasons that this comic book has done so well.

b75780af364f0c618b33ee87f78cadc1With 134,526 copies sold, the first issue of the Batman/TMNT crossover was the fourth best selling comic book of December 2015. That’s a pretty impressive number, beating out sales of Batman issue 47 by a few thousand copies, proving once and for all that the Ninja Turtles can help Batman to perform better. Okay, so it’s probably the other way around, especially considering how the base TMNT comic has been selling as of late. In December, issue 53 of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles only sold 17,190 copies. Given how arguably important that issue was to the story, it’s kind of sad to see the waning interest in that series.

Regardless of those low numbers, it’s still nice to see that the Batman/TMNT crossover is doing so well. Hopefully this success continues with every issue of the crossover, as fans of both franchises appear to be enjoying the story so far. If you were one of the hundreds of thousands who picked up this first issue, what are your thoughts? Is this shaping up to be an excellent crossover series? My name is Justin Wren and I love to write about the TMNT! I've been a big Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan since the late 80's. Back then, I would watch the original animated series and play with the Playmates toys all the time. I have been following the boys ever since I was a kid, and I'm very happy to see them back in the limelight after all these years. Needless to say, I'm proud to be a member of the team on this awesome TMNT Fan Site!
