TMNT: Out of the Shadows Nominated for Razzie Awards

Was Out of the Shadows the worst sequel of 2016? Well, they've received a nomination for the Razzie Award! That's probably not a good sign. Image Source: Paramount Pictures.

Whether you liked the movie or not, it’s obvious that Out of the Shadows wasn’t exactly the most well received film of 2016. The movie may have made its budget back, but it didn’t produce enough of a profit to warrant continuation of the series. Considering what this meant for the franchise, it’s not necessarily surprising to see that the last TMNT movie has been nominated for 2 Razzie Awards. Even shellheads will likely concede that one of these nominations is probably appropriate, but the other nomination might come as a bit of a shock.

The first nomination is for Worst Actress and it goes to Megan Fox for her role as April O’Neil. TMNT fans have been outspoken about this casting choice since it was revealed several years ago, so it’s not exactly surprising to see that she could win a Razzie for her latest work. The second nomination is for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel. Given just how many films qualify for this dubious award, it’s almost offensive to see them nominate Out of the Shadows. Even if you didn’t like the movie, I doubt that many of you would say that it was among the worst sequels of 2016.

To be quite honest, there was a lot more negativity surrounding Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) than there was for Out of the Shadows. Most TMNT fans agreed that the second movie did a much better job of re-creating the characters they knew and loved, indicating that the film was an improvement over the last effort. Although its failure in theaters eventually lead Paramount to put a hold on future projects with the franchise, this movie was far better received than the last one. With that in mind, it might be a little confusing to see that the movie has been nominated for Worst Sequel of 2016.

Whether these Razzie nominations come as a welcome surprise or a disturbing disappointment, it’s clear that a lot of people didn’t like Out of the Shadows. Here’s hoping that their next attempt at a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is something that everyone can enjoy!

Since I love the characters so much it’s disappointing to see them get nominated for worst of anything. But I will totally agree with the Megan Fox nomination. I blame some of it on the story and poor dialogue, scenes (did we really need April in a school girl outfit?), etc. I have to say looking through the list of Razzie nominations, it looks like there are several comic book movies on the list.

okay, the worst sequel thing is just stupid. As a sequel, it was easily the BEST sequel of 2016. These Razzie awards people only nominated it because it didnt make alot of money which is just lame, uninformed, and idiotic. Although the Megan Fox thing I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH.

I liked Out Of The Shadows, Most of the hate just comes from Michael Bay being the producer for it.
