If Donny thought a 99 cheese pizza was impossible, wait until he gets a load of this! In an attempt to break the world record for most cheeses on a pizza, a Portland restaurant recently created the world’s first 101 cheese pizza. Upon hearing about this, a Connecticut pizzeria was inspired to take this challenge to an entirely new level. I had a feeling that we might see a restaurant attempting to top this feat sometime soon, but I certainly didn’t expect them to literally top the competition with an additional 8 cheeses!
After only a week of technically holding the world record, Scottie’s Pizza Parlor has been unceremoniously unseated by Letizia’s Pizza in Norwalk, Connecticut. With the help of a local store named 109 Cheese and Wine, the restaurant managed to obtain the 102 cheeses necessary to make this culinary wonder a reality. As of today, they have officially created the world’s first 109 cheese pizza. For those keeping track, that beats the fabled dish from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by ten.
It only took a week for this race to heat up, so it wouldn’t surprise me if yet another pizzeria decides to step in with even more cheesy goodness. If you want to see how they went about making this incredible dish, Letizia’s Pizza has actually uploaded videos of the creation process on their Facebook page. Something tells me it wouldn’t exactly be easy to obtain all of the ingredients necessary to beat this 109 cheese pizza, but perhaps one of our fellow shellheads can take this a step further.
When will this cheesy war of the pizzas end? Well, that all depends. How many cheeses actually exist? Something tells me that will become an increasingly important question as pizzerias across the world attempt to break this record. Whatever comes next, it’s nice to see that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continue to inspire creativity and ingenuity in a variety of industries — including pizza restaurants.
