Several years ago, the production company FauxPop began working on a documentary film about the origins of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. When they began their work, they didn’t necessarily have the support of a major studio or anyone of note. Thankfully, they eventually managed to secure interviews with several people who had close ties to the franchise. In 2014, Paramount purchased the rights to distribute their film and it became known as Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The film was pretty well received, but it actually failed to touch on a lot of important moments in the history of the property. Thankfully, it would appear that they have begun work on a direct sequel to Turtle Power! According to Co-creator Kevin Eastman himself, FauxPop has been working on “Volume 2” of Turtle Power, and they actually managed to secure an interview with him for this documentary. Needless to say, that’s definitely a good sign for what we can come to expect from the next movie in this series!
I never expected to see a sequel to Turtle Power, but I’m glad to see that they are working on this project. The first film included a lot of never-before-seen footage from the early days, but it failed to touch on much of the TMNT content that came out in the last 20 years. Although they referred to Turtle Power as “The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” there was quite a bit of information missing from the documentary. Hopefully this second volume will add a lot of new material and touch on subjects such as the 4Kids series and the comics.
As of right now, it’s hard to say when we will see Turtle Power: Volume 2 hitting store shelves. They’re in the process of producing the film as we speak, so chances are that it will be a while before the film is actually available to purchase. Until then, you can always watch the original documentary for free on Paramount’s Youtube channel.
