New TMNT Video Game On the Way?

In the past few years, Activision has produced a handful of games based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. Unfortunately, most of them have been lackluster, with Out of the Shadows being perhaps the most notable title among them. After this spat of mediocre games, we weren’t even sure that they had retained the TMNT license, because it’s been roughly a year since we have seen or heard about any new TMNT video game titles. Thankfully, that might be changing soon thanks to a recent discovery.

It turns out that a game entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan has been submitted for ratings approval in Australia. According to the information we have, the game will be published by Activision and developed by Platinum Games. The first name behind this title probably won’t excite you, but the second name should at least be intriguing. Platinum Games has a slew of excellent titles to their name, including (but not limited to) Bayonetta, MadWorld and most recently Transformers: Devastation.

It’s safe to say that this would be the biggest developer to back a TMNT video game in several years. These guys typically work on Triple A titles, so the mere fact that their name is attached to Mutants in Manhattan is a pretty good sign. If anyone can craft an excellent modern fighting game with the Ninja Turtles, it’s probably Platinum Games. One look at Transformers: Devastation shows that they know how to take a classic franchise and revitalize it with a modern title.

Unfortunately, neither Platinum Games or Activision have come forward to officially announce that this game is actually happening. All we know is that it has been submitted for ratings in Australia, which could mean that they have plans for a title but they haven’t really developed anything yet. With that in mind, it could be a while before we see anything more concrete about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan.

My name is Justin Wren and I love to write about the TMNT! I've been a big Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan since the late 80's. Back then, I would watch the original animated series and play with the Playmates toys all the time. I have been following the boys ever since I was a kid, and I'm very happy to see them back in the limelight after all these years. Needless to say, I'm proud to be a member of the team on this awesome TMNT Fan Site!
