Welcome to another installment of Turtle Bits, where we talk about all the Ninja Turtle news that has fallen through the cracks. This week, we’ve found a couple of very interesting things to show you!
First off, let’s talk a bit about the new movie once more. I know that the subject is wearing thin for a lot of fans, but I think everyone will be interested to see this. This photo of a very familiar vehicle was reportedly taken on the set of the new film. Yep, that is most definitely the Shellraiser! Okay, so it doesn’t look exactly like the ride that the turtles use in the new TMNT series on Nickelodeon, but it is very similar. With wheels that stuck out and an elongated frame, I think it’s safe to say that this bad boy is going to be the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle’s method of transportation in the new movie being produced by Michael Bay.
The design is definitely interesting, as it seems like a cross between the new and the old with elements of both the original Turtle Van and the newer Shellraiser. Whatever the case may be, this is definitely more of a modern take on the concept. Considering just how much the film seems to be pulling from the original 1987 animated series, it’s definitely interesting to see them go with a design like this. It’s times like this that we have to think back to all those times Kevin Eastman has told us that he has complete faith in this project and wonder how it all fits together.
Speaking of Mr. Eastman, he recently gave Sideshow his thoughts on the creation of one of his favorite characters, Casey Jones. They then took this narration and used it to create an awesome animated video, following the thought process of this creative genius as he explains some of the motives and characteristic traits behind one of the craziest characters in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe. While fans are curious how Nickelodeon will choose to portray his character in the new show, at least we can get a sense for what he was originally intended to be. Check out Eastman’s thoughts in a loving homage that will give you new found respect for the purpose of Jones and his creation.
Be sure to let us know what you think of the new Shellraiser and this awesome little video that gives us Co-Creator Kevin Eastman’s take on one of the most beloved characters in the franchise. We love to hear from the fans, so don’t be shy! Do you think Casey Jones complements Raphael well? Is this new vehicle close to what you expected? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
