There are collectibles for all types of people. Even the youngest. Mattel has taken their Little People line and has now begun releasing licensed sets, so we were lucky to be able to take a look at the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set.
This is the box I received in the mail. It was HUGE. The set I received is not available at retail, but look how cool it is!
The set came with an apron featuring the box art of the turtles, a pizza spatula featuring the TMNT designs, and the set of TMNT figures.
The set itself is great! They took the classic Little People silhouette and updated it to match the turtle designs.
I’m very much a stickler for details in my collectibles. Mattel easily could have kept these figures as basic as possible, but they included enough to make adult collectors take a closer look.
Raphael features his classic sai weapons and aggro face. Michelangelo is a bit more lighthearted showing off his “chucks” and a slice of pizza. Donatello features a turtle-com (because he does machines), and Leonardo wants a hug.
The packaging was surprising as well. It seems really sturdy and features a collector-friendly window display, for any in box collector. The artwork features each turtle, but also Channel 6 News, a Foot Clan logo, and radioactive ooze canister. The inside packaging looks to be modeled after the turtle lair from the original cartoon.
This is definitely a collectible made for kids. But that’s a good thing.
Things like this keep the franchise alive. Little People will create memories for future TMNT fans. The packaging is great, but this would be fine to take out of the box. These are a great alternative for kids who might be a bit too young for some of the other toy lines out there. This set is meant to be played with. I’d guess that most coming to this site had their first Ninja Turtles toy, and this will be the first for a new generation.
