Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Crossover With Ghostbusters Once More

A few years ago, IDW released a TMNT/Ghostbusters crossover comic which proved to be quite entertaining. Erik Burnham, who had previously written a lot of amazing Ghostbusters comics, aided Tom Waltz in providing the story for this mini-series. Needless to say, the results were pretty impressive, and it would appear that the series was very successful. During SDCC 2017, IDW announced that the turtles would be meeting their ghost busting pals again in a second comic line.

Erik Burnham will be teaming up with Tom Waltz once more to tackle the script for this second TMNT/Ghostbusters crossover. Considering how well the duo worked last time, I’m sure this is a very wise decision that will please thousands of comic fans. The first issue is scheduled to hit the stands on November 1st, 2017. As if that weren’t awesome enough, Playmates Toys has announced their own interesting action figure line to go along with this crossover.

Rather than having them team up with our heroes in a half shell, Playmates has elected to combine both franchises by turning the TMNT into the Ghostbusters! Much like their Star Trek crossover line from back in the day, this collection features the turtles dressed up as four characters from an equally awesome sci-fi series. Raphael will take the role of Winston (complete with mustache), Leonardo will be dressed as Ray, Michelangelo fits perfectly as Peter, and then Donatello is perhaps the most perfect choice as Egon.

Unfortunately, we don’t yet know whether or not these collectible toys indicate anything about the plot of the comics. Although I wouldn’t expect that to be the case, it would be pretty interesting to see these characters literally crossover into one another. We don’t know how much these action figures will cost, but we can tell you that they will be hitting store shelves at about the same time as the comic book crossover series in November.

The last time we brought up the original crossover, we asked whether or not Paramount and Sony would consider a film crossover event. Although that hasn’t happened, it’s clear that both companies are interested in seeing these characters brought together as much as possible. If these comics and toys sell well enough, perhaps that dream will become a reality after all!

What do you think? Will you be picking up these TMNT/Ghostbusters crossover comics and/or toys? Share your thoughts and plans either in the comments below or on Facebook/Twitter.

My name is Justin Wren and I love to write about the TMNT! I've been a big Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan since the late 80's. Back then, I would watch the original animated series and play with the Playmates toys all the time. I have been following the boys ever since I was a kid, and I'm very happy to see them back in the limelight after all these years. Needless to say, I'm proud to be a member of the team on this awesome TMNT Fan Site!
