Super7 SDCC 2023 Exclusives

San Diego Comic Con is right around the corner!

Super7 is back and brought a batch of great exclusives to this year’s convention. While they absolutely killed it with with the Roger Rabbit reAction set, Godzilla Ultimates figure, and the line of Peanuts shirts, we’ll stay focused on their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Exclusives.

Super7 TMNT Exclusive Shirts

Starting off with a great partner to their toy exclusive, this bizarre shirt is based on a main-in offer from the original Playmates line. Featuring art based on the original cartoon, the shirt shows the Shredder bursting from a can of Super7 pasta. The mint green is a great summer color.

The Neighborhood Sewer Watch is on duty with this double sided shirt. The front has a small “Anti-Foot” graphic on the side chest. The back has a large design featuring Raphael in his classic trench coat disguise.

This years exclusive figure offering is a great throwback to the original line. The Shredder emerges with a ReAction figure based on the colorway for the exclusive mail in figure from another canned pasta company (who shall not be named here). No word yet on if canned pasta comes in the can, but I know I won’t eat it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles exclusives and events at San Diego Comic-Con

With San Diego Comic-Con just over a week away, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are set to make an impact for their 35th anniversary.

From exclusive collectibles to giant panels, this year’s SDCC is sure to give TMNT fans plenty of options. Here’s everything Ninja Turtles we were able to find for the biggest pop-culture celebration of the year.

NECA Toys SDCC Exclusive “The Capture of Splinter” Figure Set

It seems that every year at SDCC, NECA Toys outdoes themselves with their TMNT figures. Years ago, their produced a set of figures based on the Mirage Comics, the original arcade games, and the ’87 cartoon. Following last year’s exclusive set, all 4 brothers designed from the 1990 film in 7 inch scale, would seem impossible. Luckily, they gave us a companion piece to the 2018 exclusive.

This set features another 4 figures, letting you recreate pivotal moments from the same 1990 film. Movie versions of Splinter, Shredder, and 2 Foot Clan members come in the package. There are a ton of accessories and the details are gorgeous.  Right now, these are exclusive to the convention, but anyone not able to get their hands on the exclusive set can hope for a Gamestop release in the future.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Michelangelo dressed as Batman

Taken from the latest Warner Bros. Animation release, this figure is straight from the movie. After Michelangelo discovers everything the Batcave has to offer, he tries on the cape and cowl for a joyride. Mikey’s joy for Gotham and it’s characters is one of the best parts of the movie.

This is a unique figure for any TMNT collector, or Batman fan. You can pre-order yours here!

Hot Wheels Turtle Van

Hot Wheels are bringing the iconic Party Wagon (aka – the Turtle Van) to their die-cast line. This tiny replica is a great collectible, and will be available in limited batches at SDCC at the Mattel booth.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder Figure

Stop by the Nickelodeon booth for a chance to get this exclusive Shredder figure from the new series. This unique take on the classic villain stands at 6 inches tall and features glowing red eyes and slide joint neck articulation, waist articulation, ball-joint articulated shoulders, as well as articulation at the hips, knee, and ankle.

To Shell and Back: An exclusive TMNT creator panel

It’s creator COWABUNGA time!  Three generations of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creators will take the stage to celebrate the history, fandom, and success of the Heroes in a Half -Shell.  This exclusive history-making event will give fans rare access to co-executive producers Andy Suriano and Ant Ward (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), executive producer Ciro Nieli (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and legendary TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman. United for the first time, these award-winning creators will answer fan questions, share audience giveaways and unveil never-before-seen original TMNT art. Moderated by Mike Cecchini (Den of Geek).

Nickelodeon will also feature daily activities at their booth.

Comic-Con reveals cover art for 2019 Souvenir Book

San Diego Comic-Con is the biggest pop-culture event on the planet.

The 2019 convention marks the 50th event thrown by the Comic-Con producers. The cover of their yearly book showcases the biggest news in comics. Since it’s such a special occasion, they brought in renowned artist and DC Comics chief creative officer Jim Lee to design the cover. And it’s special.

Comic-Con is pleased to reveal this year’s cover, penciled by the great Jim Lee—with inks by Scott Williams and colors by Alex Sinclair—featuring 13 of comics most popular characters. Sure you’ve seen Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman together before, but have you seen them with Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Hellboy, Spawn, Michonne from The Walking Dead, and all four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo? It’s the team-up fans have been dreaming about!

It was DC Comics publisher and chief creative officer Jim Lee’s idea to feature all of these earth-shattering heroes bursting from the San Diego Convention Center lobby to save the world in a one-of-a-kind piece of art the likes of which has never been seen before.

Jim had this to say about working on this year’s cover: “The honor was mine getting to do this historic cover for the world’s preeminent pop culture event. What an amazing 50 years!”

“Comic Con was the start of it for me and from my very first Con back in 1987, it’s been a huge part of my life. I’ve watched it transform the business and usher in a world I don’t think any comic book reader back in 1987 would ever have imagined to come to be.

“Thank you, Scott and Alex—you two continue to elevate and enhance everything you guys touch and this cover is a testament to the teamwork that we have forged and the sheer talent you bring to every project.”

As a side note, this also marks the first time since 1975 that Comic-Con’s Souvenir Book has featured a wraparound cover (that cover featured Will Eisner’s The Spirit poolside at the El Cortez Hotel in San Diego). Click here to see all of our Souvenir Book covers over the past 50 years!

Comic-Con’s Souvenir Book is available free to all 2019 attendees (while supplies last). This 280-page, full-color, trade paperback book features a pictorial history of Comic-Con’s past five decades, featuring over 530 photos and artwork from the event’s past, along with special features, including an in-depth history of Comic-Con by Eisner Award-winning author Bill Schelly. The Souvenir Book is available onsite only at Comic-Con 2019, July 18–21 at the San Diego Convention Center.”

It’s an incredible image. Jim Lee stands as one of the best artists in comics of all time, and it’s great to see his take on characters he normally doesn’t cover. As chief creative officer of DC comics, I didn’t think we’d ever see him do Marvel characters again.

Maybe with all the cross-overs between Batman and the TMNT lately, maybe there’s still hope for Jim Lee to tell a full Ninja Turtles story. Until then, we at least have this cover.

NECA Toys announces First SDCC 2019 Exclusive

In keeping with the tradition of World Turtle Day, NECA Toys has once again announced their San Diego Comic Con TMNT exclusive.

And, oh man, it’s a good one.

From NECA Toys-

After wading in a puddle of radioactive waste, four ordinary reptiles become more than just turtles, and are raised by the similarly transformed rat Splinter to become New York City’s greatest crime-fighting quartet. Their biggest enemy—and Splinter’s nemesis—is The Shredder, ruthless leader of the Foot Clan, a criminal organization that’s terrorizing the city. Yet is only after Splinter is captured by the Foot that the Turtles learn how far back his feud with Shredder goes…

This epic box set recreates the “Capture of Splinter” scene from the 1990 movie in 7” scale, all the way down to the in-box positioning! The set includes Splinter (with cloth robe), Shredder (with cloth cape), and two Foot soldiers, plus plenty of extras: manacles, a cardstock crate, and a weapons rack for storing all the Foot clan accessories.

Looks like another hit from NECA! I love Master Splinter in these. They even nailed his robe! NECA puts out quality toys, and this set is a welcome addition to last year’s set, or any TMNT collection.
