Shortly after the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows in theaters, Paramount revealed their plans for an exclusive lunchbox collector’s set for the physical release of the film. Unfortunately, at the time they hadn’t yet provided any information about when the film would be released on both digital and physical formats.
Today we can confirm the official release date for both formats, as well as a plethora of information about each individual release. Needless to say, there are going to be quite a few options when it comes to obtaining the latest TMNT movie!
Before we start gushing about the various retailer exclusives for the blu-ray, let’s talk release dates. Fans of digital streaming will be happy to know that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will be available on VOD in just over a month on September 6th.
This digital copy will come a full two weeks before the official release of the DVD and Blu-ray, which is slated for September 20th. This gives us just enough time to deliberate over which version of the movie to buy, as there will be several different releases to consider.
First and foremost, Paramount will be releasing a standard Out of the Shadows Blu-ray and DVD copy of the film. In addition, there will also be both a 3D Blu-ray and a 4K disc for those who have the technology to enjoy them.
As if that weren’t awesome enough, we’ll also be seeing a variety of exclusive packaging for the standard blu-ray release, including the lunchbox collector’s set we previously wrote about. In other words, if you aren’t interested in picking up that lunchbox, you might want to consider one of the following options.
Wal-mart will be releasing their Out of the Shadows blu-ray with a set of TMNT toy miniatures. Target will be selling the film in an awesome turtle shell packaging which supposedly boasts over an hour of bonus content. Finally, Best Buy will be unveiling a steelbook for the film to go along with their steelbook packaging for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014).
Each exclusive collector’s set will come with two reversible Ninja Turtles masks that you or your children can use to look just like your favorite turtle. Only the lunchbox set will include the first film as part of its package.
Needless to say, there is a lot to consider for collectors of physical media. If you’re a blu-ray fanboy like myself, there are so many options here that it’s almost overwhelming. To be fair, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is a fairly overwhelming movie, with several new characters to meet and discover over the course of the film.
Perhaps it’s fitting that the Blu-ray and DVD releases of the film should provide this many options for viewers! Speaking of which, let’s talk about the special features you can expect to find on the Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases of the film.
- Digital Reality
- In Your Face! The Turtles in 3D
- It Ain’t Easy Being Green
- Evolutionary Mash-Up
- Turtle Rock
- Extended Ending
- “Shell Shocked” Music Video
- Making of “Shell Shocked”
Although the Target exclusive promises an additional hour of bonus content, we have yet to determine whether or not they are just talking about the above features which will be available on almost every physical copy. If we discover anything else about these releases, we’ll be sure to let you know. If you’re interested, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
