Turtle Power Director Takes On He-man With ‘Power of Grayskull’ Documentary

by Justin W

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have an interesting history with He-man. While they may have been competitors in the world of cartoons, toys and comic books in the 80’s, both properties now enjoy a healthy and nostalgic fan base. If you grew up watching either the Ninja Turtles or Masters of the Universe, chances are that you were familiar with both franchises. Perhaps that’s why Randall Lobb, the man behind the Turtle Power documentary, has decided to make his next documentary about He-man and the Masters of the Universe!

Lobb will be joining Rob McCallum, the man behind the documentary Nintendo Quest, to craft a movie that truly honors the franchise. The movie will be entitled Power of Grayskull, and it will be produced by Lobb’s FauxPop Media and Pyre Productions. There’s no word yet on when the movie will be released, but it looks like they will be launching a Kickstarter campaign for the project sometime in early 2016. Needless to say, when that crowdfunding project launches, we will be one of the first to let you all know about it.

Much like Turtle Power, Power of Grayskull will focus on the creation of the franchise and the many different areas of pop culture that were affected by the Masters of the Universe. You can expect topics to range from the cartoons to the comic books, and I have no doubt that they will place a lot of focus on the popular He-man toy lines that are still being produced today. If you’ve ever had an interest in the MOTU universe, this documentary sounds like it will be right up your alley.

The name may be a play off of "Thundarr the Barbarian," but the characters are often based on the MOTU universe.

Okay, so He-man is not the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but this project is still definitely worthy of note. After all, the world of MOTU had a profound effect on the TMNT universe. One look at Crognard the Barbarian proves that He-man and similar cartoons were definitely an inspiration for the creators of Nickelodeon’s TMNT series. It’s also nice to see that the guy who worked so hard to bring us the most definitive TMNT documentary of all time is continuing his work with yet another beloved franchise.

What do you think? Will you be supporting Power of Grayskull when the Kickstarter goes live? Are you excited to see another awesome documentary from Randall Lobb and Rob McCallum? Share your thoughts in the comments below and let us know if He-man was just as influential for you as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you haven’t seen Turtle Power yet, do yourself a favor and check it out on DVD or Digital Streaming today!

It is not a real film. A film that would play in the cinemas.
