Several years ago, a couple of independent filmmakers approached us about their latest project. This doesn’t happen often, but it’s always interesting to see what up and coming creative minds have to contribute to the franchise. Sometimes these types of projects fizzle out and never see the light of day, but this time was different. We were excited about the concept for their film from the start, as they informed us that the film would include some very unique and historic footage related to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Although there were times when we weren’t sure when or if the movie would ever be released, eventually it was discovered that Paramount had secured the rights and decided to release it alongside the major motion picture in 2014. The rest may someday be included in the definitive history of the people who made this documentary possible. If the title didn’t already give it away, we’re talking about Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
This documentary featured footage of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird from back in the 80’s, deliberating over the types of toys that should be brought to market and celebrating the success of their comic book franchise. The movie was also notable for including some of the last footage that was ever shot of James Avery (the voice of Shredder) before he unfortunately passed away. They weren’t lying when they called it a definitive history of the TMNT!
That being said, even at the time of its release, we noted that they missed a few important details here and there. For instance, they pretty much entirely neglected to mention the 2k3 series, and there were a few other holes missing in the entire story. Thankfully, it would appear that they are being given the opportunity to correct this mistake, as they are currently working on Turtle Power: Volume II.
Although we still don’t know a lot about this project, we can tell you a few things for sure:
- The Turtle Power filmmakers will be hosting a panel about this and other projects at SDCC 2017
- Projects currently in production include both Turtle Power: Volume II and Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-man
- They will be revealing footage that may or may not make the final cut
- The panel will be held on July 22nd from 7:15pm – 8:20pm at the Marriott Grand Ballroom 3 & 4
- For more information, check out their Facebook page Definitive Film
Needless to say, this is big news for anyone attending SDCC 2017. Something tells me a lot of people completely missed this, and it seems like the kind of event that fans will definitely want to attend. Hopefully this helps to get the message out, and at the very least I’m sure that fellow shellheads will be glad to hear that their plans for a second Turtle Power documentary are still in motion. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date as information about this project continues to develop.
Until then, we recommend that you check out the original Turtle Power film!

They’ve better share more information on the 2003 and 2012 TV series’. Mainly Rob Paulsen voicing two turtles in the crossover specials from the 2012 series
I’ll bet Disney regretted their decision the instant the fandom announced it’s 10,000th fan.
