NECA Reveals Packaging Design For New Donatello Figure

It’s been a while since NECA first revealed their plans for this Donatello figure. Some fans were beginning to wonder if the collectible would ever actually get released, and it looks like that might finally be happening very soon. With a release date of October 2016, something tells me these bad boys won’t actually be shipped for at least a few more weeks, but at least we now know what the packaging will look like. If they’ve got this artwork completed, it’s only a matter of time before the actual product hits the market!

In the interest of transparency, it’s important to note that we have actually embellished the artwork a bit to give you a sense of what to expect from the final release. The full, unedited packaging artwork can be found below, and it’s looking pretty darn good. All we did was to add the actual figure in where it would appear in order to help you envision what this collectible would look like on a shelf. Unfortunately, due to its rarity, you probably won’t see this item on many store shelves. As a matter of fact, if you really want this Donatello figure, you should probably pre-order it as soon as possible.

As you can see, they’re not being shy about the inspiration for this TMNT collectible. This artwork essentially just takes the original poster for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) and places it on the front of the package. Fans will also appreciate the font used for the NECA logo on the back, which is based on the font originally used for the FHE logo back in the 90’s. FHE released a variety of VHS collections of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. Anyone who watched these VHS tapes will likely remember the logo and font from the very beginning of the video.

This packaging is pure nostalgia, and that is definitely awesome. NECA’s Donatello figure is only the first in this line, and chances are that they will continue on with the rest of the turtles shortly. As a matter of fact, they already revealed all four turtles earlier this year! Although it has taken a while for NECA to get going with their latest line of TMNT merchandise, it’s nice to see that the long wait has definitely paid off. Hopefully we’ll start to see some more information about the Raph, Leonardo and Michelangelo figures coming out in the next few months.

My name is Justin Wren and I love to write about the TMNT! I've been a big Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan since the late 80's. Back then, I would watch the original animated series and play with the Playmates toys all the time. I have been following the boys ever since I was a kid, and I'm very happy to see them back in the limelight after all these years. Needless to say, I'm proud to be a member of the team on this awesome TMNT Fan Site!
