90’s TMNT Movie Statues At Toy Fair 2016

by Justin W

As if the market hadn’t already been flooded with a variety of different TMNT Movie Statues and collectible figures over the last few years, we’ve seen even more popping up at the most recent Toy Fair in New York. In particular, we’ve seen two different companies working on their own selection of Ninja Turtles statues based on the original 1990 film. In recent months, we’ve seen statues based on the most recent film, the comic books, and even the original animated series, but this marks the first time we’ve seen anything of this caliber based on the original movies. While Prime 1 Studio had all four turtles on display at the show, NECA only provided a look at Donatello’s sculpt. I think it’s fair to say that the design of Prime 1’s TMNT movie statues was much nicer. However, we need to remember that these statues are likely to be much more costly than NECA’s work. We’ve seen work from Prime 1 Studios before, and it is typically around $600-$700 or more per statue. Whereas, NECA’s figurines are usually a lot more affordable. You can actually pick up a collection of four NECA TMNT figures based on the original comic series for around $100 right now.

There are no official prices for any of these TMNT statues or figures as of yet, but it’s nice to see that the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies are starting to get some recognition once again. I’ve always loved the design of the Ninja Turtles in the original films, in part because they were created with help from Jim Henson. It’s hard to believe it’s been over 25 years since the first movie came out, but it’s nice to see that more than one company recognizes the nostalgic appeal of the original TMNT movies. NECA hasn’t shown any other turtles in this potential line just yet, but we shouldn’t suspect that they will only produce a Donatello figure.

Which of these Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures or statues will you be picking up when they hit store shelves? Do these designs appeal to you as a fan of the franchise? We’d love to hear your thoughts either in the comments or via your social media network of choice.

I’m not gonna spend $600 on a statue, but I will pay for a 14/th scale pose-able figure for $100. Why settle for a single pose for the rest of my life, when I can switch it up with NECA figures? It simply boiled down to statue vs figures.
