5 Awesome Retro TMNT Commercials We’ll Never Forget

Every now and then it’s fun to relive great memories from the past. If you grew up in the 80’s or 90’s, chances are that you had a lot of advertisements aimed directly at you. This was also the era that gave us the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so you can bet they appeared in quite a few commercials. Some of these ads are more memorable than others, but even if you can’t remember all of them, it’s still worth the nostalgia trip just to check them out once again. If you’re in the mood for a quick trip back to your childhood, check out all these retro TMNT commercials!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES Game Commercial

Remember this game? This was the first TMNT video game designed for a console. It was developed at around the same time as the original arcade game, but it wasn’t necessarily as high in quality. Regardless of the differences in gameplay, several fans still have a copy of this game sitting in their closet somewhere, and they have memories of playing through the entire frustrating experience. From the trick with Donnie’s bo staff to the annoying and unforgettable water level, there’s just something about the original TMNT NES game that makes this commercial even more enjoyable.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan Gameboy Commercial

Honestly, I had completely forgotten about this commercial. That being said, I definitely remember the game, and it wasn’t that bad. Unfortunately for the kid in this commercial, it looks like the game was so enjoyable that one of the turtles actually stole it from him! Okay, that can’t actually be one of our heroes in a half shell, can it? Perhaps he’s part of the Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang! Whatever the case, this is definitely one of those weird retro TMNT commercials that doesn’t really fit with the whole idea of crime fighting mutant turtles!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Crunchabungas Commercial

I seriously have no recollection of this product. Chances are that I never actually got to try these, but apparently they were indeed a thing. This ad is a bit weirder than the rest, because they went with a claymation style for the boys in green. There’s something strange about seeing clay Ninja Turtles talking about some kind of corn puff product that claims to taste like pizza. Even so, somehow I can taste a bit of that cheap wannabe “pizza flavoring” that all of these types of food items seemed to have back in the day. Part of me wishes I could still grab a bag of these just to find out whether or not they were any good!

Hostess Turtle Pies Commercial

When the new movie came out, a friend of mine kept insisting that they should bring back Turtle Pies. Unfortunately, although they did manage to bring back Ecto Cooler for the Ghostbusters reboot, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles didn’t see as much nostalgic love. That being said, I don’t think Turtle Pies were very good to begin with, as they were basically just a regular vanilla pudding pie with green icing. The ad claims (like many of the other retro TMNT commercials on this list) that this product came straight from the sewers, so that might explain the taste. Regardless, I’m sure a lot of you are still jonesing for a return of these nostalgic pudding pies!

Pizza Hut Right Field Commercial

I had to end this list properly, so why not give you a commercial that is only tangentially related to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? If any of you remember watching the original 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie on VHS, chances are that you’ll also remember this commercial playing before the movie starts. To this day, a lot of shellheads still have fond memories of this ad, even though there is literally nothing turtle related featured in the advertisement. There’s just something about the song and the scenario that makes the whole experience very nostalgic!

Here’s hoping these videos have sent you back into the past to remind you of better times. If you’re looking for more TMNT videos to enjoy, make sure to check out our Turtley Awesome Videos article series.

My name is Justin Wren and I love to write about the TMNT! I've been a big Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan since the late 80's. Back then, I would watch the original animated series and play with the Playmates toys all the time. I have been following the boys ever since I was a kid, and I'm very happy to see them back in the limelight after all these years. Needless to say, I'm proud to be a member of the team on this awesome TMNT Fan Site!
