Another day, another Out of the Shadows TV spot, right? Well, yes and no. This isn’t just any average TV spot – this might be one of the most creative and hilarious TV spots I’ve ever seen. Instead of going the traditional route and just showing us a bunch of shorter clips that we’ve already seen from previous Out of the Shadows trailers, this time they decided to focus on just one aspect of the movie in a humorous parody commercial. If you’ve ever seen a commercial advertising a pickup truck before, the lingo and voice they use to advertise the movie in this spot will probably sound very familiar.
That’s right, the latest Tartaruga TV spot takes a closer look at the new party van that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are using to get around. The second that loud, booming voice starts talking about all of the special features you’ll find on the latest iteration of the party wagon, it’s clear that this commercial is referencing all of the car and truck commercials we have seen in the United States over the past few decades. Let’s just say that I laughed quite a bit when they listed off the “Manhole Cover Cannon” as a feature on the Tartaruga.
Yep, it would appear that this is the name they are sticking with for the Ninja Turtles’ new ride. I’m sure a lot of fans would prefer that they stick to the source material and call it something like the “party van” or the “party wagon,” but this vehicle is so far removed from that concept that it would seem a bit silly to keep that name. Heck, the Targaruga looks a lot closer to the Shellraiser we’ve seen in Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series than it does to anything we saw in the original animated series or the 90s movies.
I think my favorite line from this ad is “Who needs horse power when you have Turtle Power?” Even if you’re a die hard fan who is nostalgic for the old days of the TMNT franchise, that reference has got to hit a note. I don’t think I can say this was the best Out of the Shadows TV spot thus far, but it was definitely the most original. That being said, I’m sure you can expect a few more spots to hit the web and the airwaves over the next few weeks. Paramount is making a huge push for this movie, so it’s safe to say that the ad blitz has only just begun.
