Just in case you forgot who the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were, Paramount has released a trailer to remind their audiences. I’m not going to lie, I think the aim of this trailer is kind of silly. I guess when you’ve already shown a bunch of trailers and TV spots for a movie, there comes a point when you run out of audiences to approach.
After all, if you’re interested in seeing this sequel, chances are that you’re familiar with the TMNT franchise. A new Out of the Shadows trailer isn’t necessarily going to sell anyone who is already familiar with the characters, so why not go for the audience that doesn’t know as much about them? But then, does that audience really even exist? Are there people out there who can afford a movie ticket that don’t know who the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are? For crying out loud, why was this trailer even made?
Well, despite the fact that the intro to this new Out of the Shadows trailer was somewhat unnecessary, there is a lot of footage here that some of the fans might not have seen yet. Most of the footage was already revealed either in other trailers, TV spots or previews, but it could still be new if you haven’t seen it yet. For instance, that shot with Raph taking out the two guys on motorcycles? That’s pretty awesome. The nunchaku that come out of the Tartaruga vehicle used by the turtles are also really cool – even if Mikey does destroy them. Oh, and did anyone else see Donnie controlling the trajectory of that plane with his bo staff? That was kind of amazing.
All in all, there are a few new scenes on display in this new Out of the Shadows trailer, but it’s mostly content that we’ve already seen. If you’re not sold on the movie yet, I doubt this will convince you to check it out. That being said, I’ve seen more of a positive response to this movie than I did for the first film that Platinum Dunes produced. Something tells me that Out of the Shadows is going to be a run away hit at the box office this year, and I can’t wait to check it out in exactly one month. That’s right, it’s only one month from the official release date of this movie as of today! How radical is that?
