Was That The Technodrome in the TMNT 2 Trailer?
It didn’t take long for sharp eyed fans to notice something interesting in the first trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Not only does there appear to be something coming out of the sky, but some sort of flying alien craft appears to be soaring through New York City. Many fans have already taken to calling this the Technodrome, under the assumption that these flying spacecraft may be pieces of the large vehicle that will eventually form the whole. While we don’t yet know if this is the case, there are a few good reasons to believe that these assumptions may be accurate.
First of all, as many fans have noted, certain aspects of the design for these ships look very similar to the Technodrome, and you can see some examples of this in the image below. Unfortunately, at this point the similarities discovered by fans amount to little more than conjecture, even if they are fairly convincing arguments. That all being said, it’s important to remember a little rumor that made the rounds on the internet several months ago – the rumor that Krang might make an appearance in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel. Back when the movie was still being shot, there were reports from on set that they had been shooting a few scenes for the menace from Dimension X. Since then, we haven’t heard or seen anything to suggest that this may be true – until now.
With the reveal of some sort of alien craft coming out of the sky in this trailer, it seems more likely than ever before that we could see Krang in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. This isn’t proof that those were pieces of the Technodrome, but with what we do know about the movie and rumors surrounding its production, it seems fairly likely. Even if it’s not the Technodrome, it’s fair to assume that this is some sort of technology from Dimension X. We’ve seen quite a few examples of flying Kraang technology in Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so for all we know these could literally just be basic Utrom spaceships.
In the end, we probably won’t know what is really going on here until the movie comes out. Then again, Paramount could just surprise us with an even more revealing trailer before the movie officially releases on June 3rd, 2016. With a lot of trailers (Batman Vs Superman, anyone?) going a little too far into spoiler territory, some shellheads are already concerned that this might happen with Out of the Shadows. Speaking as one of those hard shelled fans, I am also hopeful that any future trailers will be careful to avoid giving us too much information. I’d rather be surprised by the introduction of Krang than to know about it and expect it from the beginning.
What do you think? Is that the Technodrome, or is it just some other form of Utrom technology? Are you excited about the prospect of seeing Krang in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
