Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – TMNT 2k3 Season 5 This Fall
Some fans prefer the original animated series from 1987, while others are more interested in the latest series from Nickelodeon. However, there is a pretty large contingent of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan base who have more of an affinity for the 4Kids series which began in 2003. The animated series was noted for staying fairly accurate to the comic books (in some ways) and making the turtles a little more hardened than their previous interpretations, so it’s not difficult to see why so many people enjoyed watching the 4Kids TMNT cartoon.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and TMNT 2k3 eventually ended its run after seven seasons just a few years before Nickelodeon took the helm. Since then, fans have struggled to get their hands on some of these classic animated episodes, as the series was not properly or fully released on DVD. In addition, with Nickelodeon’s series taking center stage, TMNT 2k3 wasn’t given much of any time to shine until recently. Thankfully, it would appear that Nick has been listening to the fans, as they have slowly been re-introducing the 4Kids series.
Late last year, I was ecstatic to report the news that Nickelodeon would be airing episodes from the first two seasons of TMNT 2k3 on their Nicktoons channel during the holiday season. Since then, they have also re-released a slew of 4Kids TMNT DVDs to the market and continue to announce even more home video releases for the near future. With this latest news, it would appear that these hardened heroes in a half shell are truly starting to make a comeback.
According to a reputable source, the Nicktoons channel will be airing the fifth season of TMNT 2k3 from October 26th to October 30th starting at 8 PM each night. Originally sold as the “Lost Episodes,” the fifth season is also known as the Ninja Tribunal story arc. Although this season did actually make it to DVD, the set is quite difficult to come by and will cost you a pretty penny. In other words, when it comes to this particular moment in the series, your best bet might actually be to catch it on Nicktoons later this month.
Overall, this is very good news and a pretty good sign of things to come. If Nickelodeon is still interested in airing full seasons of the show and they’re actively reproducing releases of the DVDs, chances are that the content is selling quite well and they will continue to give the fans what they want in the coming years. Does this mean that we might someday get a physical release of every season of the 4Kids TMNT series? Who knows. All we do know is that this can only continue if support from the fans remains strong.
What do you think? Will you be checking out the fifth season of TMNT 2k3 later this month? Let us know in the comments below and tell us about your favorite episodes of the series!
