Turtle Bits: Ninja Turtles Toys Make Headlines

When it comes to toys, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have brought us some of the most unique and creative action figures the world has ever seen. Perhaps that is why the Playmates designed TMNT toy line has found itself on the short list for the National Toy Hall of Fame for the past two years. That’s right, once more this year, the Ninja Turtles were being considered for Hall of Fame status.

Unfortunately, they got beaten out by Army men, Bubbles and the Rubik’s Cube. To be fair, these are all definitely classic toys that deserve their day in the sun, but it is a little disappointing to see our heroes in a half shell get the shaft again. Oh well, I suppose there’s always next year, right? Perhaps this will become a continuing theme until they finally make it in? Here’s hoping that our favorite TMNT toys eventually find themselves earning the respect they deserve.

Even if they aren’t lining the halls of a museum quite yet, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are still lining the toy aisles of every major retailer in the world. In fact, we’re set for yet another major release from Playmates very soon, promising the inclusion of everyone’s favorite baddies, Bebop and Rocksteady! We broke the news about these toys a few months ago, but since then it has become apparent that they will actually be exclusives at one particular retailer: Wal-mart.

That’s right, Starting in mid-November, you’ll be able to pick up these two awesome new toys exclusively from Wal-mart. There is no word yet about whether or not these particular figures will be available anywhere else in the future, but it is possible that this is only an exclusive for the holiday season. That being said, at least these toys will be available at one of the most notorious retail stores in the world, which means they should be easy to find and at least somewhat affordable.

TMNT toys have always been big business, and that business is seeing a surge in popularity after the success of Nickelodeon’s animated series and the new movie from Platinum Dunes. Whether you’re a fan of the original TMNT toys from back in the day or you’re looking to get your hands on some of the newer action figures coming to stores soon, it’s clearly a good time to be a Shellhead!
