Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer #2 Review

by Justin W

As news trickled out slowly about this movie over the past year, fans have been speculating about some of the directions that the film might take. Although the past few trailers haven't quite revealed enough information to confirm or deny anything, it would appear that we have finally been given a full length trailer that shows the fans what they want to see. If you weren't interested in this movie before, this latest teaser might just convince you to give it a chance.

So what did we learn from this? Well, for one thing, we finally got to hear and see all four turtles front and center. Each turtle actually sounds pretty good, and their banter is absolutely on point with what fellow Shellheads would expect. Even though we've only seen a bit of their characters here, it's still much more than we've seen before, and  it definitely feels like they've got the characteristics of all four turtles down pat.

In addition to this, the trailer also reveals a few things about the Shredder that we've all been curious about for a while now. Perhaps most importantly, we see Eric Sachs conversing with a shadowy figure who appears to have a scar on his face, which looks a lot like it could be Oroku Saki. The discussion they are having is about the Shredder suit. Some fans have been speculating that perhaps Eric Sachs was not the Shredder, but was instead working for the Shredder – and this trailer might have just confirmed their suspicions. It definitely looks like we might have all been fooled!

After this revelation, we see the Shredder suit in all of its glory – and it is big and terrifying. This thing is sharp as heck, and one hopes that Oroku Saki is actually well protected under all of that armor. After the reveal of the suit, Splinter gets attacked and we actually get to see more of his face than ever before. Splinter looks pretty good, although I'm sure none of us wanted his first reveal to be an image of him being defeated.

Eventually, Raphael states that he is going to save his brothers, which indicates that yet another fan speculation may have been true, as video footage from on the set showed three of the turtles being captured by the foot clan. I've got to say, the fans were totally on the ball when it came to discovering where this movie was going with what little information they had. Kudos!

By the end of the trailer, we get to see Vern and April's boss Bernadette joking about the origins of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – a not so subtle jab at fans who still believe that the turtles are aliens. Oh, and we get to see some pretty awesome action scenes with the Ninja Turtles, which is exactly what everyone wanted from the very beginning.

Even if you still don't like how the turtles look in this movie, it should be pretty clear by now that the story of the film actually does appear to pay a decent amount of respect to the origins of the TMNT, and it looks like they definitely did the characterization of each Ninja Turtle very well. Hopefully this trailer does a good job of convincing all of the naysayers that the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles might actually be pretty good. Hey, it's got the Kevin Eastman seal of approval, right? Might as well give it a shot.

Is it really out of the realm of possibilities that the one we think is Oroku Saki may in fact be the Krang in his old depleted body?

It would totally be Bay like to use the incarnation that fans most dispise, for shock value. I hope to god it’s not the direction they go with. For once let’s have a criminal mastermind at work here. No leader of teenage misfits, no Utroms, no cartoonish supervillains, just the benofacto 100% genuine article!

Well Nick demanded several changes to the script when the project underwent a short hiatus. Maybe this is one of them. For all we know the friction caused by us the fans were what made this decision. I for one am grateful either way.
