Leonardo Says Third TMNT Movie Has Not Yet Been Announced

Ever since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows failed to impress at the box office this summer, a lot of fans have been wondering whether or not we would see another sequel in that movie universe. Although several actors have reported that they are signed on for at least three films, neither Paramount nor Platinum Dunes have revealed any plans for a third TMNT movie to the public. The only people who might know something about these potential plans would be those who are attached to the project in some way, and even they are now reporting that they haven’t heard anything.

Pete Ploszek, the actor who portrays Leonardo in both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) and its sequel Out of the Shadows, recently gave an interview to CBM in which he was asked about whether or not he had heard anything about a third movie. His response was fairly straightforward, and it wasn’t exactly the kind of response that a lot of fans will want to hear:

“Not yet. As far as I’m concerned, there are people a lot higher up the food chain making those decisions, so we’re waiting to hear and I know that we’re all excited to keep doing these and I’m dying to get back in the same room with those four guys.”

If Ploszek had heard that the studio was moving forward with the third film, he might have said something like “I can’t talk about that yet.” Instead, he came right out and admitted that he hasn’t been told anything about a possible sequel. This doesn’t mean that they definitely aren’t going to move forward with a third movie, but at this point it’s pretty clear that the studios involved are taking a much different approach than they did after the first film was released. After all, if the actor who plays Leonardo doesn’t even know what’s happening with this franchise, it’s a good bet that we won’t be seeing another TMNT movie very soon.

Although some fans will no doubt be disappointed to hear this, others may actually be happy. There is a vocal group of TMNT fans who simply do not enjoy the Paramount/Platinum Dunes Turtle-verse, and they probably don’t want to see a ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3‘ hitting theaters in the near future. Personally, I’m a bit disappointed in this news, but I wouldn’t be upset if the studios involved decided to take a different direction with the Ninja Turtles property. That being said, even the turtles themselves don’t know what is going to happen yet, so it’s safe to say that the future of shellraising action on the silver screen is still up in the air.

Do you want to see another TMNT movie set in this universe? Would you rather see the studios take a different approach with the franchise? Let us know your thoughts either in the comments below or on facebook/twitter.
