If you’re like me, you prefer to see what you’re going to get before paying hard earned money for it. In the case of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows blu-ray, there are several different releases to consider. In addition to the standard copies that you will find just about everywhere, Paramount also signed deals to produce exclusive sets for retailers such as Best Buy, Target and Wal-mart. With so many special editions of this movie, it might be difficult to pick just one for your collection. Thankfully, one TMNT fan had the foresight to help us all out by providing an overview of every single release!
Youtube user Wetmovie1 was sent no less than six different copies of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows blu-ray, and he decided to show us all what we can expect to find in every single set. Although he might not go into too much detail about the special features on each set, it’s nice to be able to see what each edition looks like once the packaging has been removed. Trust me when I say that you will want to watch his video before deciding on which version of the film to purchase, as you might be surprised at the differences between each release.
When it comes to the 3D and 4K releases, there isn’t much of a difference in packaging quality. However, the retailer exclusives vary wildly in quality, so make sure you shop around before choosing your special edition Out of the Shadows blu-ray. Here are a few important details you should keep in mind:
- The Best Buy Steelbook features an embossed title and Graffiti artwork on the inside
- The Target Turtle Shell packaging is made with cheap plastic, so it probably won’t hold up to repeat viewings
- The Lunchbox set is very durable and actually functions as a vehicle
Sadly, the cheaply produced Target exclusive is also the one set which includes more special features than every other Out of the Shadows blu-ray release. To be specific, there appear to be three featurettes on this set that you will not find elsewhere. If you’re a stickler for this kind of content, you’ll have to purchase the fairly unimpressive turtle shell packaging to get it. To be honest, the more I look at these special editions of the film, the more I feel like the lunchbox set is unquestionably the nicest of the bunch.
If you haven’t picked up your copy of this film yet, these will be important details to consider before making a decision about which version to purchase. Hopefully Wetmovie1’s video will prove helpful and informative for all of the shellheads who want to buy this movie!
