Entire set of ZenMonkey Studios TMNT pins

I got an awesome package from Zen Monkey Studios!

They recently released a line of officially licensed enamel pins any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans need to check out. They sent me the entire set to make sure TMNT fans know about them. You can grab any of these for yourself over at their site. But if you need any further convincing, check them all out below!

4 pins together

First up, these four pins show designs based on the 1989 cartoon series, but are posed based on the character select screen from Turtles in Time! These soft enamel pins work really well as a set, or pick your favorite turtle to show off alone. Great for fans of the game or the cartoon.

These two are awesome. One featuring our favorite party dude, Mikey hugging his favorite food. The other featuring the evil Shredder.

 

These two are my favorites of the set.

Featuring the artwork from the original Mirage comic series, these pins show off where the turtles got their start. It’s SO RARE to see merchandise based on the original comic, so kudos to Zen Monkey Studios for really going the extra mile. The smaller pin is so simple but so cool with only the red bandana coloring. The larger hard enamel pin showing the 1st appearance of all 4 brothers made it immediately to my jacket.

I think these are the only officially licensed pins out right now. These are from great people who are clearly fans of the turtles like we are, so make sure to check out their stuff. The pin backings are rubber (which hold way better than the metal clasp, I think) and even the packaging is great.

Last year for New York Comic Con, they had some awesome limited pins for Rick and Morty, Invader Zim, Legend of Korra, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. Let’s hope they give the TMNT the same treatment this year!

Unboxed! – April 2018 TMNT Box

I received my first TMNT Subscription box over the weekend!

I’ve seen this box posted online before and always thought about getting it. Since this is my first box, I won’t talk about previous boxes at all.

First up is a Casey Jones mousepad. I have gotten mousepads from other boxes in the past, but they have been sort of tacky so far. This one has a simple design but looks really cool. I appreciate that it says “1985” and not 1984 like most TMNT stuff out there. Casey Jones was introduced in 1985 in the Mirage series, Raphael #1, so I appreciate the detail.

Next, is a cool notepad! It features Raphael on the the front in the Mirage style. It fits easily in your back pocket and has an elastic attached to hold the pen. It’ll help you bust out your inner Channel 6 News reporter any time you need!

Last, a Tilty Bluetooth Speaker, featuring a Ninja Turtles head on top. It has a great design and is really easy to use. I’m not the best guy with tech out there, but I was able to connect to my phone really easily. It gets surprisingly loud and sounds better than I thought it would!

This months theme was pad, or so it appears! You get a Casey Jones mousepad, a Raphael notepad, and a Ninja Turtles Bluetooth Speaker for your pad.

An Eclectic Selection of Exclusive Collectibles – November 2017 TMNT Box Review

One look at the image above will likely surprise some of our readers. Needless to say, the limited edition t-shirt design on display here is one of the big ticket items included in this package. This artwork might be much louder than anything else we’ve seen from the subscription box thus far, but it’s also one of the most unique Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles products I have ever seen. In addition to the shirt, this box also contained a few smaller collectibles that just about any fan can enjoy. With that said, let’s take a look at the contents of this month’s TMNT Box!

SPLINTER T-SHIRT

This exclusive TMNT t-shirt design comes to us from artist Zachary B. Friedberg and the artwork is entitled “No Shredder, No Shoes, No Problem.” Although the colors and concept on display here may not be of interest to some fans, I can personally see myself wearing this with a hoodie or a Hawaiian shirt during the spring and summer months.

Perhaps November is an odd time of year to promote this kind of graphic tee, but it’s still an excellent piece of original art which you won’t find anywhere else. I’ve got two Splinter t-shirts now, and I have to say that this one might actually be my favorite.

 

RAPHAEL/ROCKSTEADY COLLECTIBLE COIN

As you can see, TMNT Box has decided to continue their work with these awesome collectible coins. This month brings us Raphael and Rocksteady, two of the most hot-headed characters in the entire franchise.

I could be wrong, but I believe this marks the final turtle in the series, which would mean that any further coins would have to feature different heroes and villains. Thankfully, there are still quite a few people and mutants in the turtle-verse to continue this series of coins for quite some time!

MIRAGE MICHELANGELO COLLECTIBLE PIN

In my humble opinion, this collectible pin might actually be the best item in the entire box. With artwork taken from the original Mirage comics, the Michelangelo pin included in November’s TMNT Box is sure to please pretty much any long time fan.

Personally, I’m hoping this is just the first of all four Mirage turtles in pin form! One thing is for sure – I am definitely wearing this pin to my next convention. Say what you will about the rest of this subscription box, but I don’t think anyone could come up with anything negative about this fantastic item.

 

FINAL THOUGHTS

Even though the Splinter t-shirt might not be every fan’s cup of tea, I doubt anyone will complain about that Michelangelo pin. While the graphic tee is worth anywhere from $10-$20, it’s fair to assume that both the pin and the coin would fetch around $5-$10 on the open market. That puts the value of this box at anywhere from $20-$40, which is pretty darn good for a $9.99 monthly subscription. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have much to complain about when it comes to November’s TMNT Box.

The Kevin Eastman Notebook Series: Michelangelo Coming Soon

Over the past year or two, IDW has been releasing special collections featuring artwork and storyboards from the early days of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book. With the help of co-creator Kevin Eastman, they have collected a lot of historically important notes and sketches from the 1980’s and lovingly placed them in a series of hardcover books entitled “The Kevin Eastman Notebook Series.”

These compilations have been focused mainly on the creation of character archetypes from the franchise, with notebooks based on notable names such as Casey Jones and Raphael. The latest collection in this series focuses its sights on none other than Mikey! It looks like The Kevin Eastman Notebook Series: Michelangelo will feature a lot of artwork and notes from the micro-series comic book which saw Mikey fighting criminals who were stealing toys from orphans at Christmas. This could actually be a pretty cool holiday gift for fans of the early TMNT comics.

Set for release on December 20th, pre-ordering this item should guarantee that you will receive it before Christmas. That being said, we can’t say for sure that this will be the case, because shipments often get delayed during this time of the year. At a price of $39.99, this is a bit more expensive than most comic collections, but it’s definitely worth the price for a historical look at the creation of a popular Ninja Turtles character. The cover of this book features the subtitle “A Wonderful Holiday Tale,” so chances are that we will see a lot of special material related to the creation of the Michelangelo micro-series.

If you’re interested in picking up this classic TMNT holiday adventure, the Michelangelo micro-series can be found either in the Ultimate Collection or individually on Kindle/Comixology for $1.99. This early Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story is truly fantastic, and it’s definitely a fan favorite. Needless to say, it’s nice to see them releasing even more content related to the classic micro-series so close to the holiday season. Whether you’re shopping for yourself or you’re looking for a nice gift for the TMNT fan in your life, The Kevin Eastman Notebook Series: Michelangelo is sure to be a hit with longtime fans of the franchise.

DreamEX Reveals Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Figures

It’s been a few months since we heard that DreamEX would be releasing highly detailed Casey Jones and Shredder figures. Although it was nice to see so much love and attention given to the villains and vigilantes of the franchise, a lot of fans were wondering if the company would ever get around to announcing the turtles themselves. Thankfully, we now have photographic evidence that they have been working on four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures. Needless to say, our heroes in a half shell are looking pretty darn good!

Close-up shots reveal that the designs for these Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures are heavily influenced by the original Mirage comic books. Raphael’s sculpt looks like it leapt right out of the pages of an Eastman & Laird graphic novel! Upon closer inspection, it’s clear that these designs borrow from more than just one iteration of the characters. I don’t know about you, but I can also see some influence from the 4Kids TMNT series and the original animated series. To be honest, these might be some of the most awesome TMNT collectibles I’ve ever seen.

Unfortunately, we don’t know anything else about these Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures as of yet. That being said, we can at least make an educated guess about the price point of these awesome collectibles. Being that the Shredder and Casey Jones figures are about $200 each, chances are that this set of four TMNT figures will run you about $800. Considering the level of detail that each character has, this is definitely a fair price, even if it is a little too expensive for most fans.

Oh, and does anyone else notice a little trench coat in the corner? Could it be that the Raphael figure will come with his disguise from the first movie? Collectible figures like these often come with awesome accessories, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see them add something like that for Raph. I don’t know about you, but I’m very excited to see what DreamEX does next. Rest assured that we will let you know when these bad boys are available for pre-order!
