Although many fans don’t like what Platinum Dunes and Paramount Pictures have done with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, it’s fair to say that the film series has developed at least a small following. According to analysts, the merchandise tied to these movies has sold very well. Perhaps this is why Prime 1 Studio has been making so many products based on the designs from these films. A few months ago, the company announced their plans to release a statue based on Raphael, Bebop and Rocksteady. Recently, they unveiled similar arrangements for a Donatello statue as well!
To be honest, I wasn’t even expecting this. After the first film came out in 2014, they produced one Raphael statue, but they didn’t continue on with any other Ninja Turtle. This time around, it would appear that Prime 1 Studio has enough faith in the product to continue producing them for hardcore fans. Unfortunately, you’d have to be a hardcore fan to drop the kind of money they want for these statues, because they will run you about $599 each. That’s a pretty ridiculous price for most shellheads, but it will still be a nice collectible for those who can afford it.
Limited to a run of only 750, this Donatello statue is going to be quite the collector’s item. It might not be an item that every fan will want, but with so few of them in production, it’s safe to say that the collectible will hold its value. You can expect this statue to hit the market sometime in either Q3 or Q4 of 2017. Considering the limited run, we suggest pre-ordering as quickly as possible if you have any interest in obtaining this Prime 1 Studio figure.
Even if you’re not a fan of the films, you have to admit that these high quality statues look very nice. I’m sure we’ll get a lot of comments about how they should have done a set of figures based on the original movies from the 90’s, so it’s worth noting that Prime 1 Studio actually did that already. If you haven’t already seen them, I highly recommend checking out their work on the old school TMNT before passing judgment on their latest project. This company does fine work, even if it isn’t the kind of product that every fan will enjoy.
