New TMNT Game Coming to 3DS

by Justin W

While many of you will remember that Activision signed on to produce three games based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in early 2013, others might be baffled that there is yet another TMNT game being released by the publisher. After the moderate success of Out of the Shadows and a game based on the Nickelodeon series that they barely even bothered to advertise, fans were beginning to wonder what the third game had in store for them. Sadly, this little 3DS game is it. There isn’t much information available about this title, but from what I have been able to gather, this will be released only on the portable handheld console from Nintendo.

Of course, the fact that there isn’t much information about this game isn’t exactly startling, as it would appear that Activision is taking a similar approach to this title as they took with the last game they produced, which didn’t fare well with the reviewers. Whether or not this is any indication of the quality of the game has yet to be seen, but it seems as though they aren’t putting much effort into advertising this, instead relying on the popularity of the new movie to sell the title. Movie tie-in games aren’t always bad, but any gamer worth their salt knows that history hasn’t been kind to them. Considering this is the first we’ve heard about the game and it’s due to be released in a month, I’m not holding out high hopes for the title.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3DS Game 2

This time around, the game focuses on the Ninja Turtles from producer Michael Bay’s new film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The story seems to be based around the movie, although there is no confirmation that it is a 1-to-1 retread of the plot from the film. On the off chance that the game’s plot does borrow heavily from the film, here is Activision’s description of the game in a halfshell:

“Mad genius Baxter Stockman’s mutant and robotic horrors have teamed up with the shadowy armies of the Foot Clan to terrorise New York City and only Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello can protect its subways, sewers, rooftops and streets from their devastating campaign.”

Obviously, it doesn’t sound like the same plot we have seen in the trailers, so it might actually be a completely different story. Still, one has to wonder just how much of the game is true to the plot of the movie, as these screenshots reveal a character that haven’t even been confirmed for the movie — Slash.

It’s more than likely that this is just an addition to the game and won’t be seen in the film, but it is interesting nonetheless. The game itself looks like it could be a hack and slash beat-em up title with an isometric view, which is not exactly normal but it also doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be bad. With at least one character that you might not have expected to see, this game might be worth a shot. That being said, the fact that Activision hasn’t done much to advertise the game does indicate that they don’t want anyone seeing it or reviewing it too early before release, which publishers and developers often do when they know they’ve got a stinker on their hands. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what comes of this one.

What do you think? Will this new 3DS game be worth a shot, or is it just another title that will sit on the shelf and collect dust? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below or sound off in our forums!

Why would anybody be baffled that another TMNT game is coming out? Movies usually come with their own game and it’s not as if the gaming industry hasn’t made multiple games out of a franchise since the beginning of the video gaming industry. That first sentence is what baffles me. I’m also excited for this game

that doesn’t make sense.A Time Warner game developer making a game of the ninja turtles, who are owned by Viacom? Their competitor!?!

I love the Turtles more than the next guy,but they don’t make as much money as Batman because 40-50 year oids don’t like it.
the original fans aren’t old enough to cover all demographics because they haven’t been around for 50 years like Marvel or 70 like DC.
soon though.

I would wish this was for Wii U even though I have a 2ds at home. A Wii U version would totally make it better.
