Megan Fox Joins Ninja Turtles Movie

For months, fans kept insisting that this movie would never see the light of day; that it had officially bit the dust. Unfortunately for them, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a hot commodity right now and it’s highly unlikely that the studios behind the project are just going to give up on it. In the ensuing months since Michael Bay made his now infamous extra terrestrial tortoise announcement, we’ve made a few discoveries and sorted a few things out in regards to what we do know about the film. First off, the title will be shortened down to Ninja Turtles. Second, it may or may not change the origin of our beloved heroes in a half shell. Third, it will probably feature CGI animated turtles voiced by some of the same actors who are currently working on the Nickelodeon TMNT show. Finally, the script that was leaked was not official and is not the final script.

With all that out of the way, it’s time to enter yet another little nugget of information into our meager collection, as it was recently announced that well known actress Megan Fox will be joining the cast of the new Ninja Turtles film. Michael Bay himself made the announcement on his website the other day, saying simply that “we are bringing (her) back into the family!” It remains to be seen exactly what role she will fill, but you don’t hire someone like Megan to just sit in the background. If I had to wager a guess, I’d say she is either being considered for or has already won the title of April O’Neill. It only makes sense that they’d want to add some star power to a film that will be centered on the shellraising heroes, if only to add to the marketability of the movie. Whether or not she will play the role of April, just having her attached to the film raises a lot of questions and intrigue about this project.

If you’re confused by the move, don’t be. Yes, it’s true that Fox was previously kicked off the set of Transformers 3 after making some not so friendly comments about the director, Michael Bay. However, the reality of this industry is that few feuds last very long in Hollywood; before you know it, you’re back to business as usual again. Some fans will be unimpressed with the newest cast member and perhaps they should be. After all, Megan Fox represents quite a bit of sex appeal and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have never really been about that. However, it wouldn’t be fair to assume she’s going to be in the movie just to look good, as we don’t know what her role will be or how she will perform. That being said, if you take a look at the way that Bay has directed in the past, this doesn’t look like a decision made to add some good old fashioned wholesome family fun.

Has Megan Fox been brought on board to play April? Or has she been brought on for something else? Whatever the case may be, the fact remains that a lot of fans remain very negative about this new film. Many look at this as Bay coming out and saying that he’s doing the same thing with the Ninja Turtles movie that he did with Transformers; making a blockbuster with a lackluster story based on aliens coming from outer space and focusing the attention more on the humans than on the main characters.
