The Turtles confront Old Hob and challenge his vision of a Mutant Town under his control and the startling secret of his new enforcers is revealed! It’s a pivotal moment for the Mutanimals, Mutant Town, and all mutantdom!

Getting The Band Back Together…

Raph speaks that line in TMNT #104 and, I’m not going to lie, I grinned. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Turtles working as a team since the death of their father. And this issue made that line happen literally and figuratively. The Ninja Turtles are finally back together folks…and they’re going to their first death metal show

Issue #104 has no action. Campbell’s run so far has been packed with solitude and reflection. Which is fitting considering the epic showdown in #100. But this issue shows we’re finally making progress and moving forward. Which is great to see…especially in our modern times. The route Campbell is taking with our Turtles entering Mutant-Town is exceedingly wholesome. I’m eager to see where the “Splinter Clan” goes and where Old Hob will eventually make a stubborn return.

Campbell and Pattinson’s artwork is crisp and vibrant this time around. We spend less time in dilapidated alleyways and more time in open fields. It’s a welcome change as the story itself is becoming more positive with every issue. We end the issue with nothing too dire or dramatic. The Ninja Turtles are going to experience their first concert. I guess we finally get our answer that the Coming Out Of Our Shells Tour is not canon in the IDW-verse. Dang.

I’m not thrilled with how Jennika-heavy the TMNT’s flagship title has been lately. I like the character but she currently has her own solo mini series…and I just want more coverage showcasing our Turtle Brothers…especially since the loss of their master. But, overall, I enjoyed this issue as we may be heading towards something a little more fun and lighthearted.
