Batman/ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III Issue 2

Story by James Tynion IV Art by Freddie Williams and Kevin Eastman

Published by DC w/ IDW

Released June 5th, 2019

The crisis in a half shell continues!

Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, joins series artist Freddie E. Williams II as a guest artist for the second issue of BATMAN/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES III! Krang’s true power has been revealed, and now it’s up to Batman and the Turtles to stop him, but their only hope may lie with the strange, yet familiar, visitor from another world.

With a positively explosive start with Issue 1, Batman/TMNT 3 Issue 2 continues to pack a wallop in terms of fan service, art, and story direction. Issue 2 is heavy on story, which after the cliffhanger in issue 1 it simply needed to be. And this issue completely delivers to even higher stakes than Batman and the TMNT have faced prior. James Tynion gives you enough to digest and keep those pages turning storywise as there’s never a dull moment. I always appreciate how the Mirage Turtles are always written as complete badasses. Even when interacting with Batman himself. Freddie Williams delivers on masterful artwork (as usual) but the big reason I’m scoring this so high is the fact that Kevin Eastman returned to create some classic artwork for this issue.

If you’re a TMNT fan but for whatever reason you’re simply not into this title, I’d still advise picking up Issue 2 for the fact that Eastman essentially re-illustrates the classic origin of the TMNT in his vintage style. It’s amazing to compare his original art from 1985 to this brief retelling in 2019. He’s improved much with perspective and shadow, yet still retains that look that can only be described as his own. It’s crazy to think just how many gifts we’ve given over the past few years as Ninja Turtle fans.

The issue ends on yet another “Oh baby that’s what I’m talkin’ about!” moment. As Batman/TMNT Issue 2 continues to be my favorite comic shop pick up even though it’s early on. Keep the crisis moving forward because this Turtle fan can’t wait to see what happens!

Batman/ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III Issue 2 is now available wherever comics are sold!
