Nick’s TMNT Animated Series Releasing New DVD Set This Fall
The revival of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on television has been nothing short of extraordinary for both the franchise and Nickelodeon. It has managed to capture the attention and enthusiasm of both older fans and those new to the TMNT world at the same time, while treating the material with the respect it deserves. Of course, fans can’t wait for the episodes to make their way to DVD so that they can be added to any collection permanently. However, most episodes have trickled out in small sets, consisting of only a few episodes at a time. There’s also a season one set available, but there has yet to be any release of a complete season two. While the episodes for last season are largely available on DVD, the comprehensive collection has still eluded fans – until now.
Recently, Nickelodeon announced that a more comprehensive release of the show is on the horizon. As of now, the second season has only been released as a whole set in Region 2 (Europe, the Middle East, Japan, South Africa, and a few other countries), while in America and Canada the season is only available in three different partial sets. However, it was announced that the collection is coming. On October 6th, 2015, Nickelodeon will release Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – The Complete First and Second Seasons. That’s right – comprising eight DVDs, this set will give fans the first 52 episodes of the show, ripe for binge watching whenever they feel the need. The set will be on shelves right around the time that the fourth season of the show (which will see the turtles heading into space) hits the television in the U.S.
While this is great news for fans that have been dying for a full season release of season two, it’s not such great news for those who have already purchased the season one box and were just looking for season two. This would mean spending the money for episodes that were already purchased, simply to add the entirety of next season to them. Additionally, no price point has been set just yet, but anyone who has perused the DVD offerings at the local big-box store knows that sets can cost anywhere from $20-60+ dollars, dependent upon a lot of different factors. That means it could be a problem for some fans to convince themselves to make the purchase. However, many diehard fans will still likely add the box set to their collections.
For those who have been waiting to have the entire season two of the new animated series in their collection, the wait is almost over. But, of course, it comes at a price. With any luck, there will still be an individual season two release coming, and hopefully there won’t be a plan to release seasons one, two, and three together next fall. But, until all of that unfolds, there’s no choice but to pick up season two in this way, if it’s on your wish list. Otherwise, the volumes are available for sale now, with the more coming soon.
