Turtley Awesome Videos: Radical New Toys & Vanilla Ice Commercial

Following the recent Toy Fair in New York City, the internet has been abuzz about new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys. Most of the buzz has been about the merchandise directly related to the new TMNT movie from producer Michael Bay, while other toys in the Ninja Turtles lineup were somewhat ignored. Needless to say, this is somewhat of a bummer, because a lot of these new toys are actually really cool. If you’re wondering what you’ll soon find on store shelves that isn’t related to the new film, MTV Studios recently got an inside look at some of the more interesting items for collectors and younger fans alike.

One of the more interesting TMNT toys on display was from a new toy line that puts the turtles on a zip line, prepared to take down enemies from above with a swift kick propelled by gravity! The Z-Line Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys will probably remind many of our older fans of the action figures we saw in the 80’s-90’s, which is definitely not a bad thing. With so many toy companies electing to go for the cheaper and easier route, it’s nice to see that Playmates is keeping their business model fun and interesting. In the video below, you’ll see a representative from the company talking about these new toys. You’ll also see a bunch of other toys on display, including a line of collectible “Talking Turtles,” the new “Throw ‘n Battle” line and the “Scream n’ Shout” line to name just a few.

Shortly after all the news of the toy fair died down, a new commercial hit the net and quickly brought in the fans with its humor and star power. None other than Vanilla Ice himself starred in a Kraft Macaroni & Cheese commercial promoting their new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line. In the ad, the much beloved rapper is found stocking the shelves and rapping along to his favorite TMNT song – The Ninja Rap! A mother and son come along and find him, prompting the mother to quickly jump in and join Ice for a few seconds.

As a Shellhead, I have to say that I was in uproarious laughter by the end of the advertisement. Usually, I could care less about an ad, but this was definitely something special for old and young Ninja Turtles fans alike. Not only is it funny to think of Vanilla Ice stocking the shelves at your local super market (sorry bro), but the entire concept was just dead on. If you want to find out more about the commercial, check out the behind the scenes video below, featuring an interview with everyone’s favorite Ninja Rapper.

On a side note, I have an idea to pitch to Kraft: Why not do Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shells and Cheese? You could make the shells look like turtle shells! Okay, maybe it’s silly, but I would totally buy that.

My name is Justin Wren and I love to write about the TMNT! I've been a big Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan since the late 80's. Back then, I would watch the original animated series and play with the Playmates toys all the time. I have been following the boys ever since I was a kid, and I'm very happy to see them back in the limelight after all these years. Needless to say, I'm proud to be a member of the team on this awesome TMNT Fan Site!
