It’s a brand new year which promises many great things for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. 2014 marks the 30th Anniversary for our heroes in a half shell, which makes it quite a special time for TMNT fans!
While many of you may be familiar with the new film from producer Michael Bay, some of you will be surprised to learn that it is only one of two major movies about the Ninja Turtles that are slated for release this year. In addition to Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there is also a documentary coming out about the turtle’s rise to fame. We’ve discussed the project before, but now that Turtle Power is finally going to be released, it’s time to start getting everyone excited. After all, how can you go through 30 years of the TMNT without having some kind of epic retrospective? Sure, we’ve got the reboot coming out in August, but as a long time fan, I am more excited to see this loving tribute to Shellheads everywhere.
To be fair, I’m also excited for Liebesman’s interpretation of the Ninja Turtles, but it’s taken most fans a long time to come to terms with some of the controversy circling the film since the beginning of 2013. Regardless, it’s pretty cool to look forward to 2014 and see two new movies on the horizon. What TMNT fan worth their salt wouldn’t be excited about the prospect of that? In addition to the films, we can also look forward to a new season of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which has revitalized the franchise and introduced the turtles to an entirely new generation. With big plans for the future of the series, who wouldn’t be happy to see more of this awesome new cartoon?
Word from Funko is that we can expect more Ninja Turtles toys from the line that they began in 2013. In addition to that, you know that Playmates is going to come up with some pretty great stuff. That being said, I’m more excited about what we haven’t heard yet. It’s a big anniversary year for the TMNT, so you know that anyone with their hands in the pot is going to be doing something special for the event. This could mean new DVD or Blu-ray sets, it could mean special toys or collector’s editions, it could mean just about anything! We just don’t know what the studios and other companies are going to do, but typically when an anniversary rolls around, they pull out all the stops to celebrate it.
In the next few months alone, I have no doubt that you can expect the first trailer for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and possibly even some more news about the Turtle Power documentary. With that in mind, every Shellhead should be looking forward to this new year with bated breath, eagerly anticipating what is sure to be another great year for the TMNT and celebrating their 30th year of existence in style. These turtles aren’t exactly teenagers anymore, but that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to have a party! How do you plan to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Let us know in the comments below and have a turtley awesome new year!
