The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie being produced by Michael Bay and directed by Jonathan Liebesman seems to be borrowing a lot from the original TMNT animated series. With characters like Vernon Fenwick being played by Will Arnett and Bernadette Thompson played by Whoopi Goldberg, it’s clear that this film is going to incorporate story elements from the show. Regardless of this, it would appear that there are no plans to use the original theme song from the much beloved Ninja Turtles cartoon. Brian Tyler, set to score the movie, was recently asked about whether he has any plans to at least make reference to the famous song. His response was fair, but if you’re a fan who was looking forward to hearing a revamped version of your favorite song, he explains that you probably aren’t going to get it:
“It’s like what they did with Transformers. I, of course, remember [the ‘Transformers’ TV show theme song] and the comic and then they made this live-action movie and it’s really like ‘Woah this is a cinematic thing,’ and that’s what they’re going for with Turtles. There’s something that really feels like there’s a real threat and it’s a lot of fun at the same time. So we’ll see, I don’t really know yet on that one.”
While he admits at the end that he’s not sure whether or not there will be any references to the original TMNT animated series theme song, it certainly seems like the plan is to do something entirely unique and cinematic. Brian Tyler, who will also be scoring Thor: The Dark World, has worked with Liebesman before on the film Battle: Los Angeles. To be fair, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies didn’t really feature the song either, but they also weren’t following entirely in the footsteps of the 80’s cartoon.
We have yet to see if this film will be heavily inspired by the show, but as we’ve already mentioned, there are indications to suggest that it might be. Even the new show from Nickelodeon featured hints of the iconic theme, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the film has to do the same. I’m sure there are a lot of fans who would like to see a return of this memorable tune, but movies tend to be a different beast than cartoons. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

Its ok is a movie not the tv show, BUT the only thing im not very very convinced is this space turtles stuff .. cmn ninjas from other galaxy? -.-””
have you not been paying attention? the ooze is from space just like the comics. the turtles are earth bound. there was a production press release in response to the misquote stating that the turtles would be from a space origin. micheal bay elaborated and stated that the ooze was from space just as it was in the comics.
why fashion it to the show…..I wanna see an adult theme bloody goory teenage mutant ninja turtles from the comic books…..we gave kids the cartoon in the 80’s some of the 90’s and still they have a cartoon present day…its time for an adult tmnt!!!! someone get on that
Why not just amp it up a bit so it’s recognizable yet new and make it the credits song.
