A Super Kawaii TMNT Box – December 2017

The holidays are a pretty crazy time when it comes to making shipments. Although the postal service does their best to deliver your packages as quickly as possible, there are times when several weeks will pass before your item arrives in the mail. Sadly, we didn’t receive this TMNT Box until last week, so we haven’t been able to provide a review until now. With that said, let’s take a look at what this late package has to offer.

TMNT KAWAII CUBES

As you can see, this TMNT Box came with two Kawaii Cubes. While October’s box included Donatello, December brought both Leonardo and Raphael. These adorable toys include a small bean bag on the bottom and they are relatively easy to stack. Now that we’ve received three of the four turtles, I have to wonder if they have any plans to send us Michelangelo in the near future. No matter what their plans are, this is definitely a nice addition to the package. At an average retail price of $5-10 each, these two toys alone are worth the cost of a TMNT Box.

Although I’ve really enjoyed a lot of the collectible pins they have been putting in the TMNT Box as of late, I have to admit that at least one of these is not very impressive. The manhole cover is a bit of a strange choice for a TMNT pin, but I guess you could surround it with pins of the actual Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a reference.

To be fair, the TMNT masks pin is actually pretty cool, and I’m happy to add it to my collection. Considering that you’d pay another $5-$10 for each of these pins on the open market, it’s safe to say that these trinkets actually add a lot of value to the subscription box.

CASEY JONES/FOOT SOLDIER COLLECTIBLE COIN

Last but not least, we have yet another collectible TMNT coin. This time around, they’ve chosen to put Casey Jones on one side and a Foot Soldier on the other. It would appear that they are finally running out of characters to put on these collectible coins. If you take a close look, you might even spot a small error in the quote from the Foot Soldier. Even though I really appreciated this trinket in months past, I’m beginning to wonder whether or not it should continue in 2018. We’ll see what TMNT Box decides to do soon enough, but suffice it to say that this wasn’t the most impressive item in the package.

FINAL THOUGHTS

When it comes to value, there’s plenty to work with in December’s TMNT Box. I’d say there’s at least $25-$30 worth of merchandise, and that’s a pretty good deal considering that you’re only paying $9.99 a month. Although some of these items weren’t my cup of tea, I really loved the TMNT masks pin and the Kawaii Cubes. It seems like this subscription box always finds a way to impress me with at least one or two interesting collectibles or knick-knacks each month. That said, I hope that 2018 will bring a little more variety to the service.

An Adorable TMNT Box Review – October 2017

Yes, this article is about two weeks late. Unfortunately, our TMNT Box arrived a bit later than anticipated, and I didn’t have the opportunity to provide this review until now. That being said, October’s box was so interesting that I simply had to write this review. The items included might not be everyone’s slice of pizza, but they’re definitely worth the price of a subscription.

Kawaii Cube Donatello

It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything soft and fluffy in the TMNT Box. Although it’s a bit small, this cute little Donatello plush is too cute for words. The cube-shaped toy includes two felt feet and arms, as well as a small felt bandanna on the side.

Developed by Wish Factory, these miniature collectibles typically sell for between $5-$10 each. In addition to Donny, you can also get Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Bebop and Rocksteady.

Kid Robot is one of the premiere names in vinyl figures, and they have been producing TMNT collectibles for several years now. As you can probably tell, this particular item came in a blind box, which means that you never know what you’re going to get.

There are 14 possible characters included in these boxes, and I somehow managed to snag another Michelangelo key chain! Considering that Mikey is my favorite turtle, I couldn’t be happier to add this to my collection of TMNT key chains.

These blind boxes are typically sold for between $5-$10 each.

 

April/Karai Collectible Coin

This series of collectible coins continues unabated with Karai and April taking center stage in October’s TMNT Box. Considering that these coins are being crafted in small numbers, it’s worth noting that they will actually be somewhat rare. It’s also nice to see the women of this franchise getting some attention for once! Similar collectibles are typically sold for between $5-$10 on average.

TMNT Weapon Pin

Although it’s certainly not the most amazing idea we’ve ever seen, this collectible pin might be a conversation starter. After all, until you get a good look at the pin, it’s very difficult to see that these shapes are actually the weapons used by our heroes in a half shell. Upon closer inspection, fellow shellheads may appreciate the subtle nod to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. With that said, I question the wisdom of setting these weapons against a pure white background. Collectible pins such as this typically sell for between $5-$10.

Paper Craft Donatello

We were wondering when they would send out more of these TMNT paper craft projects, and it’s definitely nice to see them continue with Donatello. If you take the time to make this cut-out figurine, you should snap a picture and share it on social media with the hashtag #TMNTBOX to be entered for a chance to win the TMNT Mega Crate! Ultimately, this is just a nice little addition to the other items included in the TMNT Box.

Final Thoughts

It’s impossible to deny the value of this TMNT Box. Even at the lowest possible estimates, this subscription box included $20 worth of TMNT collectibles at a price of only $9.99 per month. As always, this box is probably filled with items that some shellheads just don’t want. Having said that, it’s clear that they are doing their best to include a variety of different trinkets to ensure that fans of all ages will get something they enjoy. I don’t know about you, but I appreciate the effort!

A Mostly Villainous Package – September 2017 TMNT Box Review

If we can say anything definitive about the TMNT Box, it is that you never quite know what to expect from this service. Most subscription boxes contain at least one familiar item per month (usually a t-shirt or a vinyl figure), but in this case you never know exactly what to expect. When they do send something routine, it’s usually a small addition to the box — like a coin or a sticker. As for the big ticket items, it’s difficult to say what they’ll come up with each month, but they usually find a way to surprise us.

September has brought yet another interesting selection which includes a few familiar sights. That being said, I definitely wasn’t expecting anything fragile!

16 oz Shredder Glass

It’s not every day that a subscription box sends something made of glass through the mail. Thankfully, there was no damage to the cup because it was very well wrapped. From what I can tell, this Shredder glass is just one of the designs you could have received in your package. The Shredder cup is actually a very high quality item and I can see myself using it for years to come. Perhaps I should make some kind of Turtle Punch to drink! Get it?

The fine people at TMNT Box have sent yet another interesting collectible coin. Based on what I’ve been told, we can actually expect a few more of these coins in future boxes. This time around, they’ve chosen to highlight Donatello on one side and Krang on the other. This pairing actually makes some sense, as Donnie has always been considered the brains of the group and Krang is literally a talking brain!

Foot Soldier and Splinter Stickers

These stickers are a lot like the ones from July’s TMNT Box, but they feature two different characters. Stickers aren’t exactly a high ticket item, but they can be a nice addition to an already interesting subscription box. Although we got Bebop and Rocksteady last time, this package includes Splinter and a Foot Soldier. These are perfect for young shellheads, but I imagine that even some older fans might enjoy collecting a few TMNT stickers.

This is a somewhat new addition to the TMNT box, and I’m definitely glad to see it. Magnets can be very useful for hanging things up on the refrigerator, but they also make nice decorative pieces for your kitchen. Even though they aren’t the highest quality TMNT magnets I’ve ever seen, something tells me that they’ll get plenty of use in my household. Considering everything else that came in this subscription box, these little accessories just supplement an already nice selection of Ninja Turtles goodies!

Final Thoughts

Although most of these were low value items, they were also pretty nice. The Shredder glass alone is probably worth at least $10-$15, and the collectible coin could run you around $5-$10. The stickers and magnets might cost another $5 on average, giving us a total value of about $20-$30. That’s not a bad deal for a subscription box that costs only $9.99 per month! Quality Over Quantity – August 2017 TMNT Box Review

Like most subscription boxes, some months are invariably better than others. The test of a good subscription box is their ability to surprise and impress subscribers. While I wouldn’t say that any company on the market has done a perfect job of providing this experience, it’s worth noting that some of them at least try to improve their service as the months pass. Although I wasn’t exactly amazed by the TMNT Box in July, they definitely bounced back in August with an interesting pairing of items.

Retro TMNT Journal

In a digital world, physical journals might seem like an oddity. That being said, I think this is one journal that most shellheads will appreciate. With embossed artwork from the original Eastman & Laird comics on the front and back, it’s fair to say that this is a very high quality item. Some of the inner pages include even more artwork from the Mirage comics, providing an excellent home for the thoughts and feelings of TMNT fans. At the back of the book, you’ll also find a pocket for hiding your most treasured secrets!

Collectible TMNT Coin

If you’ve been following the TMNT Box during the past few months, you may remember that they sent out a very nice collectible coin a few months back. The first coin included Leonardo on one side and Shredder on the other. This time around, they’ve chosen Michelangelo and Bebop, with memorable quotes from both characters printed along the edge. Although it may just be a coin, it’s worth noting that items like these are actually quite collectible. Some collectors will spend up to $10 for coins of this quality, and the mere fact that it is only available through this subscription box makes it quite rare and potentially valuable.

Final Thoughts

I’m sure some of our readers will be disappointed that there were only two items included this month, but it’s important to note that they were both very high quality. The journal, which you can find on Amazon for roughly $10-$15, has a beautiful embossed cover and incredible artwork from the original Mirage comics. The coin is the second in a series that TMNT Box intends to continue producing, and similar collectibles have sold for between $5-$10 on average.

If we’re being fair, this puts the value of the box at about $20. That may not be the best value we’ve seen from the TMNT Box, but the old idiom of “quality over quantity” may play an important role here. Say what you will, but this is definitely a step up from July’s box. Here’s hoping they continue to give subscribers even better value and more quality items in the months to come.
