Mondo announces “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” Art Show

by Kyle Tobey

Mondo will hold a “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” themed art show called “Heroes in a Half Shell”

The art exhibit will take place in Mondo’s gallery in Austin, TX. They kick things off with 2 free events. First, an opening might reception on Friday, August 17 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm, followed by TMNT Family Day on Saturday, August 18, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Family day will also have free pizza, face painting, and other fun TMNT inspired events!

So far they’ve previewed artwork (and variants) by Matt Ryan Tobin, Dave Perillo, Cameron Stewart, Stan Sakai, and Shane Hillman. It looks to cover tons of different versions of the turtles, from the first movie, 1989 cartoon, to the 2012 Nick cartoon and beyond.

From the press release-

“We’ve worked with Nickelodeon a number of times in the past, and we’ve always loved making TMNT posters, but this is our first time really diving into the depth and breadth of the property,” said Mondo Co-Founder and Creative Director Mitch Putnam. We’re honored that a handful of our favorite artists feel as passionately about pizza eating, skateboarding turtles as we do. See you there!”

Following these events, the gallery will feature the show during normal gallery hours until August 25.

Below are some other previews for the show. My favorite is the Shane Hillman variant, but how about you? If you’re in the Austin area, absolutely check this show out. It looks amazing. What’s your favorite so far? Let us know in the comments!
