Earlier this year, Dr. Martens announced their plans for a line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles inspired shoes. Although some fans really enjoyed the designs, others found them a bit odd. Something tells me that this latest shoe line from Reebok may create even more controversy, as their design is definitely unique. Rather than focusing on the turtles themselves, this latest group of Insta Pump Fury shoes will be based on three of the most notorious villains in the history of the franchise: Bebop, Rocksteady and Krang.
Oddly enough, the design of these sneakers is based on patterns from the original animated series which came out in the 80’s. Considering that Reebok’s latest shoes are probably intended for a younger audience, it’s somewhat strange that they would go for a retro concept such as this. That being said, these new TMNT inspired shoes still look pretty darn cool. The Bebop shoes features red and purple accents with a patch of faux fur on the back, while the Krang shoes include yellow and silver coloring with a Krang brain pattern on the back.
To be honest, there is only one unimpressive design in this new line from Reebok and it is the Rocksteady shoe. If you didn’t know this was a part of the collection, it would look just like a variety of other shoes currently on the market. Rocksteady may be a difficult character to perfect when it comes to footwear, but creating a simple camouflage pattern isn’t going to do the trick. If you’re willing to use faux fur on the Bebop shoes, you should be ready to go the extra mile for Rocksteady as well.
There is no word yet on when we will see these new TMNT inspired shoes hit the American market, but they are now available to order in other areas of the world. Chances are that each pair will cost between $99-$199 upon release, which is definitely a lot to spend on a pair of sneakers. To be fair, specialty products are always more expensive, so this price tag shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.
Regardless of the price and the few issues that may exist with the design, I’m sure there are still a lot of fans who will be interested in picking up these new Reebok Insta Pump Fury shoes. Exclusive TMNT collectibles typically garner a lot of attention, so chances are that this product will see a fair amount of success. Personally, I liked the Doc Martens better, but I’m not the targeted market for this product. Here’s hoping that this line of TMNT inspired shoes finds its audience!
