Half-Shell Heroes: Blast to the Past Toy Line Hits Store Shelves

thumbnail (4)On Sunday, November 22nd, Nickelodeon will be airing their TMNT special entitled Half-Shell Heroes: Blast to the Past. Sharp eyed viewers have probably already seen the special, as it was released on Nick’s website earlier this month. Clocking in at just under an hour, the short animated film features a more traditional 2D animation style that both younger and older fans can enjoy. Although it may be aimed at a younger audience, Blast to the Past features vocal work from the official cast members of Nick’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so it’s got some street cred.

Half-Shell Heroes: Blast to the Past features the turtles going back in time and making friends with the dinosaurs. Based on the Half-Shell Heroes toy line, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that Playmates has elected to craft a toy series based on the special. Designed to look just like the 2D animated turtles, these TMNT toys each come with their own dinosaur friend. Raph is partnered with his newfound pterodactyl friend, while Donnie has found a partner in a T-rex! I don’t care how old you are, these Ninja Turtles toys are awesome for fans of any age.

Maybe these aren’t the perfect TMNT toy for every fan, but for those who enjoyed Blast to the Past, this Playmates line is sure to be a hit. Ninja Turtles dressed up as cavemen and feeding pizza to dinosaurs? Sign me up! It doesn’t hurt that each of their dino friends also receive honorary ninja masks before riding into battle.

What do you think? Will you be picking up these awesome Ninja Turtles toys for yourself or for your kids? Did you enjoy the Half-Shell Heroes: Blast to the Past special? If so, let us know in the comments below!

My name is Justin Wren and I love to write about the TMNT! I've been a big Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan since the late 80's. Back then, I would watch the original animated series and play with the Playmates toys all the time. I have been following the boys ever since I was a kid, and I'm very happy to see them back in the limelight after all these years. Needless to say, I'm proud to be a member of the team on this awesome TMNT Fan Site!
