Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Danger of the Ooze Released On PS3 and XBOX 360

by Justin W

It was only a week ago that we spent some time talking about a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game that was set to be released soon. What a difference a week makes! Apparently the release date we gave of November 11th was only for the 3DS version of the game, as the PS3 and 360 versions have just been released and are now available to purchase. Danger of the Ooze definitely looks promising, but considering how little we know about it and how much the game has been seemingly buried by the developer, fans would do well to be a little skeptical.

That being said, it is worth noting that this game was developed by WayForward, the team behind such titles as Ducktales: Remastered and Double Dragon Neon. Needless to say, they usually know what they are doing when it comes to side scrolling titles, and Danger of the Ooze fits right in line with that game style. As a matter of fact, it would appear that this game has a lot more in common with traditional side scrolling beat ‘em up titles than you might have expected. After discovering that the game had been released, Game Informer did a test playthrough of the first level on a segment called Test Chamber, and they revealed quite a bit about the gameplay.

The first thing to take note of in this gameplay footage is that the game follows the style and story of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. From the very beginning, Mikey is naming your game for you and walking you through the gameplay. Eventually, the guys at Game Informer figured out that (at least early on) the game isn’t really multiplayer, you can just play as all four characters. This kind of hearkens back to the original TMNT game for the NES, where you would play as one Ninja Turtle until their energy ran out and then take over as a different turtle. I would have a problem with this if I wasn’t nostalgic for some old school TMNT action.

Other than that, it’s clear that this is a “MetroidVania” style game, and although some of the animations and gameplay look a little unimpressive, it doesn’t look like a bad game. At $39.99, at least you’re not paying full price for Danger of the Ooze. Check out the gameplay footage above and see for yourself exactly what you can expect from this latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. There’s also a proper release trailer showing some pretty interesting cut scenes. I don’t know if this game fits into the story continuity of Nickelodeon’s TMNT series, but I would assume that it does not. Regardless, it will be cool to be able to play as our favorite new iterations of the Ninja Turtles!

What do you guys think? Will you be picking this game up soon, or are you going to pass on this one? Let us know in the comments below and don’t forget that we’ve still got a lot of great retro TMNT Games that are still tons of fun to play today. Even if this doesn’t turn out to be a great TMNT game, at least we’ll always have our Totally Turtle Games from back in the day!

Can you play as more then one turtle at the same time via multiplayer?

This nerd reviewing the game tried to say Michaelangelo was the lamest out of the turtles? Wow…smh. Raph is my favorite but Michaelangelo is far from the lamest. With that being said this game doesn’t look too good. Hopefully they will put more time into a legit game.
