Paramount Pictures upcoming 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot will be featuring some cast in a slightly different method William Fichtner has revealed his character as Shredder is significantly different. Fichtner had the following to say in a recent interview with Zap2it:
“Actually, I play a guy named Erik Sacks in the film, and Erik Sacks goes though … a few changes … let’s just put it that way.”
So the main villain in this reboot will be an entirely new character or a revamped version of Shredder. The film is currently filming in Brooklyn New York and Fichtner is having a great time on set. Fichtner discovered the massive following of the Ninja Turtles.
“Its much bigger than I knew. What’s really exciting about working on the ‘Turtles’ movie right now is that this is a Michael Bay-produced film. And for whatever my experience is before, in the whole world of the Ninja Turtles, I’ve never seen anything before that has to do with the Turtles like it is in this. This is pretty exciting; this is modern technology. And you’re going to see things — this is not like, you know, a goofy little cartoon. That’s not this movie. This is uh … this is pretty [laughs] … this is pretty out there.”
Fichtner is keeping details close to the vest until hes told otherwise, you can expect the villain outfit to be different. Fans of TMNT must be aware that the film will change slightly after 20 plus years and some changes might not sit well. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot is expected to hit theaters June 6, 2014. I am very interested in how this movie is going to be. I remember seeing the “First” TMNT live action movies as a child. I can’t wait to see how Will is going to put his own twist into this new Shredder. I will be mostly happy to see this movie for my Birthday next year. But what I don’t really understand is that Megan Fox is April O’Neil. I personally don’t see her as an April but this is just me.
leave shredder as oruku saki for gods sake quit making changes leave it the way it was supposed to be in the first place… shredder has always been shredder and will forever always be shredder… if you want a new villian get rid of shredder completely and bring on a whole new persona…. lets get this right and get it right now!!!
Let’s just put it this way: no matter how well it’s played out on the screen, there are GOING to be people who are up in arms because this guy obviously is not Japanese…of which Shredder is. I’m one of the more hardcore TMNT fans, yet I also understand that movie adaptations will not PERFECTLY translate well to the screen from source material. But they OUGHT to make as best an effort as they can to stay TRUE to it.
…It’ll depend on how much of a departure this casting is from the comics.
Well, this just made me sad. Erik Sacks?? Just when I was getting excited I read this. I didn’t even mind that Shredder would be played by a Caucasian (not thrilled, but not put off). Someone has got to stop the madness.
I have mixed feeling about this, but it isn’t a complete deal breaker.
How did they choose William Fichtner? He’s a good actor, but what was the thought process? What happened? Could they not get a hold of Cary Tagawa’s agent? Was Ken Watanabe too busy with Godzilla? Is Hawaii Five-O on such a tight filming schedule that Daniel Dae Kim couldn’t at least screen test for the role?
I suppose Shredder doesn’t have to be Asian and Fichtner is fairly bad-ass, but it makes me wonder who else was in the running for Shredder, or did the movie-makers know from the very beginning that it always had to be William Fichtner.
