It’s that time of year again, with geeks everywhere filing out to Comic-Con once more. What’s more, with Nickelodeon’s new TMNT series on the horizon, you had to expect that they’d have a few things to reveal at one of the biggest and most beloved conventions in the world. Well, they already let the cat out of the bag a little early with the first official trailer for the show, but there was still a lot left unanswered after that. Thankfully, some of those questions have been answered with their latest release of the official theme song for the show (TMNT Intro theme below) . Until now, we’ve only heard short clips of this song, and it hasn’t really impressed. However, the full theme is actually quite interesting, although fans still seem to be quite divided about it.
Yes, it’s a hip-hop theme about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – but what’s the problem with that? We’ve heard hip-hop associated with the turtles before, and in fact some of the most beloved TMNT music is hip-hop inspired. I don’t know about you, but Partner in Kryme’s “Turtle Power” is still one of my favorite songs, and I honestly don’t have much of a problem with this new theme. Heck, the theme is even finished off with the classic line “Heroes in a half shell, Turtle Power.” The lyrics specifically mention the “secret of the ooze,” for crying out loud. This is about as faithful a theme song as you can expect from a reboot to the franchise. If you haven’t heard the song or seen the intro for the show, check it out below. The new series premieres on September 29th, so get ready for some brand new turtle action, because it’s just around the corner!

this new theme is semi-decent but it’s not enough to save the show. I’ve seen the clips they premiered at Comic con. This new series doesn’t really seen to understand the charecters. And the action sequences are almost as bad as the 60’s batman show. If you remeber in the trailer their were strips and colors where all the punching and kicking would normally be. I half expected to see big POW and Wammy sings across the screen.
You’re kidding, right? “This new series doesn’t really seem to understand the charecters.” Based on what has been shown, they do understand. They’re combining things from both the original mirage comics and the 80’s cartoon. Just because it’s not like the TMNT show you grew up with doesn’t mean it will suck. Based on the the comments on the Nick website, kids love it. Wait till it premires before you judge.
I agree TOLU. I am a huge fan of the original comics and the 80’s cartoon. When I heard Heroes in a half shell turtle power…i was very happy. The lyrics in the song are really good. catchy too. It’s not like they let some 50 cent eminem or jay z idiot rap on it. It is cool. Unlike Michael bay is doing to them in his hollywood big bugdet movie, I think Nickelodeon is doing them justice from what I have seen. I can’t wait to see the turtles back on top . TMNT forever.
Well said Braydee! TMNT FOREVER 🙂
