Rad Review: TMNT Youtooz Collectables!

When it comes to collectables, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and vinyl figures are two categories that show no signs of slowing down. Good for us! Bad for our wallets! But if you find yourself tired of the redundant Funko stylings, there’s a fresh collectable company called Youtooz launched in 2019 that has something for everyone. Whether it be internet memes, South Park, video games, Spongebob Squarepants, The Peanuts, and so many more recognizable properties. 

But I know why you’re here…and that’s for TMNT. And, luckily, Youtooz has us shellheads covered with their line of limited edition vinyl TMNT figures! Youtooz’s TMNT vinyl figures are based off of the beloved 1987 animated series designs and feature our 4 Heroes in a Halfshell as well as that radical rat Master Splinter and the evil Shredder. 

Each vinyl figure stands a little over 4 inches tall and comes in its own unique (color coded) packaging. This, in turn, makes the figures look truly great displayed together in such an alluring colorful way. Upon receiving my TMNT Youtooz, I noticed the difference between them and the familiar Funko Pop! Brand. Though both are aimed at collectors, the Youtooz vinyl figures automatically come in a sturdy plastic case as well as a slick character specific slipcase littered with nice artwork and quotes. They’re not generic in any sense which makes every Youtooz vinyl figure feel unique, as each figure can stand on its own. Each purchase being a little “project” in and of itself. Which is refreshing in the sea of “collect them all!” marketing. 

Yet sometimes we need to free our figures of their protective shells (ha) to be displayed in their raw form. And, luckily, the Youtooz TMNT line look just as good out of the box as they do in them.

The figures are styled with larger heads with Youtooz signature “closed eyes” appearance sitting upon well sculpted detailed bodies. The paint applications are bold and vibrant and the vinyl figures have no problem standing on their own. The TMNT and Shredder are posed for action while Splinter is calm in solitude…as many great ninja masters are. Each Turtle showcases their individual personalities. The alluring colors reek of Saturday Morning cartoons and the figures would fit right in next to a big bowl of colorful sugary cereal. Fresh but nostalgic.  

The Youtooz TMNT vinyl figure line stands out amongst the vast selection of collector vinyl. From the alluring specific packaging to the figures themselves, the higher price tag is warranted when it comes to the quality of these figures. In and out of the box I was thoroughly impressed and happy to add them to my small-ish (yet impressive) TMNT collection. 

Being impressed by these little vinyl collectables just made us look to the future. We’d love to see Bebop and Rocksteady, a Foot Soldier, or April O’Neil. What other TMNT character would you want Youtooz to create for a future release? Comment Below!

Seth Rogan’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie Will Hit Theaters This August

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Seth Rogan Movie Coming

The Paramount Studios / Seth Rogan Production: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will feature an all-star cast: Jackie Chan, Seth Rogan, John Cena, Ice Cube, Hannibal Buress, Giancarlo Esposito, Paul Rudd, Maya Rudolph, and Post Malone.

It’s been 3 days since Seth Rogen walked out onto the stage at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and announced the cast for his upcoming Turtles reboot, but the internet still hasn’t calmed down about it yet.

Scheduled to hit theaters August 4th, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem finds our favorite 4 sewer-dwelling, pizza-loving heroes in a half shell Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael with their sights set on keeping New York City safe from the antics of Bebop and Rocksteady, but also on finding acceptance from those above whom they protect.

What will make this new TMNT movie stand out from those that have come before it, will be the big screen introduction of such well-known origin story/mythology/1980s animated TV series characters as “Genghis Frog,” “Leatherhead,” “Wingnut,” “Cynthia Utrom,” “Ray Millet,” and “Mondo Gecko,” but also the insane cast of big names attached.

With Rogan at the helm of this new movie, Turtles fans will likely get to see a much better film than those previously brought to the big screen by director/producer, Michael Bay.  

And judging from the recent statement by the President of Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Animation, Ramsey Naito, the studio itself might be thinking the exact same thing: 

“We are beyond thrilled by this world-class cast we’ve assembled to bring these iconic, beloved characters to life in a new chapter of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe. This really sets a new bar for this globally celebrated franchise, and we can’t wait to show audiences this film.

PCS Collectibles announce 1:4 Scale Raphael Statue

PCS Collectibles announced a new Raphael statue.

This statue, based on the 1989 series, is over 21 inches tall! There are 2 versions announced. The EV version is limited to 250 pieces and comes with a bonus “Scowling Portrait” head. The regular edition is limited to 400.

This is one of the nicer, high end TMNT statues I’ve seen. The destroyed robot base is a really nice touch. Check out the website to grab yours! At $499, they’re sure to sell out!

Teaser for Rise of the TMNT Confirms Raphael is Still a ‘Meathead’

Earlier this week, Nickelodeon produced a press release revealing the voice actors for Rise of the TMNT. Although most of this information was perfectly innocuous, there was one detail that confused some long time fans of the franchise. Raphael was described as the “leader” of the group, while Leonardo was “the self-professed ‘coolest’ brother.” Needless to say, this would be a monumental change to the formula of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. While some shellheads were accepting of this potential alteration, others were very unhappy.

At the time, we suggested that this description might have been a mistake in the press release. Thankfully, we now have even more evidence that this information may not have been entirely accurate. Nickelodeon has just released a teaser video featuring the new voice actors for Rise of the TMNT, and each one describes the role their character will play in the cartoon. When Omar Miller explained what his role would be, it sounded a lot more like the Raphael that we all know and love.

“I relate to Raphael, because often times I act before I think. Raph is the meathead. The aggression and the overall brotherly caring that he brings as a big brother can’t be overstated.”

Now, none of this confirms that Raphael won’t actually be the leader, but it’s clear that most of his characterization has not actually been revised. Raph will still be the hothead who takes on all challengers, and that is definitely nice to hear. When it came time for Ben Schwartz to describe his role as Leonardo, he simply added that “he gets to be funny, he gets to be laid back, which is so fun to play.” This sounds a lot like the “cool” description he was given in the press release, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be the leader.

That being said, many fans have pointed out that this wouldn’t necessarily be a terrible decision. Some suggest that Raphael may start out as the leader and eventually be replaced by Leo. Others propose that this might be an alternate universe of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles where certain details are a little different. Considering the way that this franchise plays with different dimensions, it’s entirely possible that Nickelodeon will choose to take this route with Rise of the TMNT.

Unfortunately, until Nickelodeon either confirms or denies these details, we’ll have to continue accepting the possibility that Raph may indeed be the new leader. At the very least, we now know that Raphael will remain the ‘meathead’ of the group. We’ll let you know when and if any additional details are made available.

New Information About Rise of the TMNT Reveals Raph is the New Leader

It’s been several months since we first heard about Rise of the TMNT, but we haven’t received much of any information about the 2D animated series since it was announced. Thankfully, Nickelodeon has finally decided to reveal some additional details about the cartoon. In particular, we now know the voice actors who will be playing all four of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Although you may not be familiar with some of these actors, something tells me that you’ll be happy about who they chose to direct the team.

Our heroes in a half shell will be voiced by Omar Miller (Raphael), Ben Schwartz (Leonardo), Josh Brener (Donatello), and Brandon Mychal Smith (Michelangelo). Additionally, Nickelodeon has revealed that Kat Graham will play the role of April O’Neil while Eric Bauza returns to play the character of Splinter. Although you may not be familiar with some of these actors, it’s worth noting that they all have plenty of experience and they will be directed by none other than Rob Paulsen.

That’s right, instead of providing his voice to yet another TMNT series (which could still be possible), Paulsen will actually be providing direction to this relatively young group of voice actors. Unfortunately, the rest of the information provided by Nickelodeon is somewhat troubling. In particular, long time fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be disappointed to hear that Rise of the TMNT will apparently change some of the key characteristics of Leonardo and Raphael.

According to the press release from Nickelodeon, Raphael will become the leader of the group. While Michelangelo and Donatello remain largely unchanged, Leonardo has been described as “the self-professed ‘coolest’ brother.” In other words, it would appear that they may be changing the roles of Raphael and Leonardo. Although it’s entirely possible that the person writing this press release made a mistake, we should probably be prepared for the potential that this alteration will actually happen.

If there’s anything the fans know about this franchise, it is that Leonardo leads and Raphael is “cool, but rude.” The history of arguments and fights between Leo and Raph is so entrenched in TMNT history that flipping the script seems absolutely ridiculous. This potential change to the formula is very disconcerting, but I am definitely happy to see that Eric Bauza and Rob Paulsen will be returning for yet another iteration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Say what you will about the voice actors they chose, but I’m personally just hoping that Nickelodeon accidentally misrepresented the characters in this press release. We’ll let you know if Nick releases any corrections that might clear this up.
