If you’re one of the many shellheads who loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, you’re going to wish that you could buy this amazing collection of custom TMNT skateboards. In honor of the film’s release on Blu-ray and DVD, one fan decided to make four unique Out of the Shadows skateboards. Each board features one of the four turtles set against the NYC skyline at night. The artist, Kentaro Yoshida, has clearly been inspired by the manga he read in his youth. The beautiful lines and almost primal designs are unlike anything we’ve ever seen for the Ninja Turtles!
Yoshida had a lot of great things to say about the latest film when he was interviewed recently by Mashable:
“I realized there are a lot more details in the costumes and the props – it’s a way different design than the comic. Obviously in the Ninja Turtles comic, they only have different colours for their masks. But in the movie, there are so many other details to personalize each of the characters.”
He’s got a point about these latest movies from Paramount and Platinum Dunes. The turtles are a lot more detailed in the latest movie series, from the shapes of their faces to the clothes that they wear. It looks like these details allowed Yoshida to come up with some awesome ideas for the design of his Out of the Shadows skateboards. Each turtle features a different flower which further represents their characters.
Yoshida was also inspired by the culture shock he experienced when moving from Japan to Australia. While talking with Mashable, he discussed how this change in his life affected the type of art he created. It’s pretty clear that this mixture of eastern and western cultures has resulted in a pretty amazing and unique artistic style.
Although these Out of the Shadows skateboards don’t appear to be available for purchase, it’s still pretty cool to get a look at one artist’s creative interpretations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely going to be keeping my eyes peeled for more amazing artwork from Kentaro in the near future.
