If you were a fan of the 1987 Turtles animated series, that was produced by Fred Wolf, then, no doubt you remember when Usagi Yojimbo popped up in a couple episodes during the 3rd season of the hit animated Turtles series.
Of course, most know that Yojimbo was originally created, not for the Turtles animated cartoon series, but for the comics by none other than Stan Sakai. His actual origin name is Miyamoto Usagi, and to “dot the T’s and cross the I’s” he was incorrectly crossed over into the Turtles world under the name Usagi Yojimbo. But that’s besides the point!
He is a total badass rabbit samurai, and while many Turtles only know him from his appearances in the ’87 animated series, hardcore comic geeks are familiar with Sakai’s comics and the character himself.
So, if he can be integrated into the 1987 Turtles animated series, why can’t be come in now on the current Nick series as well? Certainly, Second Gen fans remember him briefly popping up in the 2003 animated Turtles series for that inter-dimensional tournament. Isn’t it just as good a time now than ever to re-introduce him back into the Turtles zeitgeist? Hell, back in the day they even gave Yojimbo a Turtles action figure! Remember, that?
We’ve been kicking the idea around here at the TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles.com offices, and we’re thinking that maybe it might be a good time now to reintroduce him considering how a very important character on the series has now been killed off. For the sake of spoilers we ain’t saying who’s gone from the Nick series, but it’s a major departure, and now seems, like it might be as good of a time as any to bring back Usagi Yojimbo.
What do you think? Do you want him to come back as a character in the Nick series?
