Rumors are flying all over the internet today about the possibility that Nickelodeon may be putting an end to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after five seasons. The fifth season hasn’t yet begun, but it will air sometime in 2017. Although there are reports that this may be happening, Nickelodeon hasn’t confirmed their plans for the future of this television series just yet. So where are all of these wild rumors coming from? Well, they came from Isaac Elliot-Fisher, the cinematographer behind Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Isaac joined the crew of Turtle Flakes – a podcast created by TMNT fans – in order to talk turtles with some fellow shellheads. The subject ranged from Turtle Power’s sequel to the future of Nick’s animated series, which lead directly to the bombshell from Elliot-Fisher. At roughly 57:38, he reveals that the series is apparently going to end after its fifth season. Unfortunately, this is the first report that we’ve heard suggesting that the series will be ending any time soon, and it has yet to be confirmed by any other source.

Although it’s entirely possible that Elliot-Fisher is privy to information we do not yet have, the lack of any other source leads me to believe that it might not be true. It’s not that I don’t trust him, but there literally is no indication that Nickelodeon has any intention of finishing the series anytime soon. The fifth season hasn’t even begun to air yet, and they keep bringing in voice actors such as Mark Hamill to play new characters in the series. If they’re willing to invest enough money and time into the series to keep it running into 2017, why would they decide to kill the show before they know whether or not it will remain popular?
This move would make absolutely no sense whatsoever, and so far only one person has even so much as suggested that it will be happening. Elliot-Fisher isn’t exactly an unreliable source, but as the only source for this information, it’s difficult to believe what he is saying without any evidence. If you listen to the podcast, he is asked about the possibility of this happening and simply responds “yes.” It could be that he misunderstood the question or was confused about the subject of discussion at this point in the show, but it’s also just as likely that he has been told about the plans for this animated series ahead of time.

Whatever the case may be, the reality is that we simply don’t know what Nickelodeon has planned for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after their fifth season. If we get halfway through the next season and they haven’t yet announced plans for the sixth season, there may be cause for concern. Unfortunately, until Nickelodeon comes forward and explains what their plans are for the series, we simply won’t know for sure whether or not Elliot-Fisher was telling the truth about the eventual end of this animated series.
Here’s hoping that this was all just a huge misunderstanding, but it’s important to be prepared for the eventuality that one of the greatest interpretations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may soon be coming to an end.
