While everyone is eagerly awaiting the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game Mutants in Manhattan, the turtles have been making appearances in other video games as well. First they showed up in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, then they appeared as a different kind of reptile in the indie hit Punch Club, but now we’re seeing references to our heroes in a half shell in one of the hottest Triple A titles of them all – Tom Clancy’s The Division – TMNT Easter Egg. Although the game hasn’t even officially hit the market, they recently released the beta for everyone to enjoy, and one sharp eyed fan found a notable reference to the Ninja Turtles in the background of the game.
Lying on the ground in this futuristic, dystopian version of New York, are both an old discarded pizza box and a pair of nunchaku. As if this reference weren’t easy enough to understand, the pizza restaurant named on the box is “Radical Pizza,” a clear nod to the kind of language the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would use in the original animated series. It’s nice to see a game that is set in New York City paying homage to four of New York’s greatest heroes! If you want to check out this easter egg for yourself, it’s actually an established piece of content that can be found at one particular street corner.
IGN VIDEO TMNT easter egg
As shown in a video produced by an editor at IGN, you’ll find this TMNT easter egg at the corner of 31st and 7th street. Whether or not the street numbers actually mean anything is up for debate, but you’ll at least be able to find the pizza box and nunchaku if you walk by this area in Tom Clancy’s The Division. With a release date of March 8th, it won’t be long before everyone gets their hands on this popular title, but it remains to be seen whether or not this easter egg will make its way into the official release. Hopefully they won’t run into any issues with copyright and we’ll be able to enjoy this little nod to the franchise for years to come.
