We recently brought you the news that the 10th and final season of the original animated series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was headed to store shelves, complete with all the missing episodes. Most fans were delighted about the news, but left wondering if other TMNT shows would ever get a home video release. Well, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but at least we are finally seeing a proper release for Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation on DVD. If you haven’t heard of the series, let me give you a little background: The Next Mutation was the first ever live action television series for the turtles. Following in the vein of the live action film series, the turtles lived in the same abandoned train station featured in the second and third films. However, the changes made to the formula were more than apparent, as the turtles would not be found fighting the Foot clan, but rather the Rank. In addition, a fifth turtle was added to the gang, and fans have been crying foul ever since.
Regardless of how you feel about the series, this is definitely a part of TMNT history that should not be ignored. Shout! 
Factory, known for their fan service, is bringing us the first volume of the series on September 4th. The set will feature the first 13 episodes of the series spread over 2 discs. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there will be any special features on the set, so if you’re looking for some retrospectives or commentaries, you might be a little disappointed. That being said, I somehow doubt that anyone would be buying this set for the special features. If you’re interested in Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, chances are it’s just for the curiosity of it. After all, most fans don’t even consider this to be a true branch off of the series, and have left it as a forgotten memory of the past. Still, if you’ve been wondering what all the discussion surrounding The Next Mutation is about, perhaps you should check out the series for yourself.
