Good Smile Unveils James Jean Inspired Rocksteady Statue

This probably won’t come as a surprise if you’ve been paying attention to Good Smile’s products, but they’ve finally revealed the finished design for their Rocksteady statue. Until now, the only point of reference we had for this collectible was the artwork created by James Jean. Now that we can see the fully painted figure for ourselves, it’s clear that they did quite an excellent job of recreating the character. Needless to say, this is going to make for an excellent addition to the crew of bad guys released by this company.

For those who didn’t know, this is actually the third TMNT villain collectible released by Good Smile. The first two products in this line were Shredder and Bebop, so it makes perfect sense to see Rocksteady follow his partners in crime. As you can see, the design of this Rocksteady statue is based on his appearance in the original animated series. Heck, he’s even sporting a boombox rocket launcher on his shoulder!

Despite taking elements from this earlier iteration of the character, it’s clear that James Jean went for a more realistic look when creating the artwork that inspired this figure. The results are quite spectacular, and it’s fair to say that this collectible figure is going to look fantastic next to the other baddies in the line. This makes seven total statues based on the work of James Jean, and they all look absolutely beautiful. Whether you’ve already started to collect them or you would like to start a collection now, this Rocksteady statue is now available for pre-order.

Good Smile Opens Pre-orders For James Jean Inspired Bebop Statue

It’s been almost a year since we discussed Good Smile’s plans to release a series of TMNT Villain statues. We’ve been following the progress of these collectibles since they were first announced, and we are happy to say that you can now pre-order the Bebop statue. This definitely isn’t the same warthog you remember from the original animated series! Although the design might be partially based on that interpretation of the character, his pink mohawk and much more menacing stance reveal that this is a much different version of Bebop.

Much like their previous TMNT collectibles, this Bebop statue is based on the stylistic work of James Jean. As a matter of fact, Good Smile is currently providing a special offer for anyone who pre-orders all four villains in this set. Anyone who obtains all four figures will be given a code that can be redeemed for an exclusive limited edition aluminum print of Jean’s original artwork. What better way to display these figures than in front of the painting that inspired their creation?

The Bebop statue is currently available for pre-order at the price of ¥18,000, which translates to roughly $158–$159 in US Dollars. Pre-orders will be open until March 2nd, 2017. If you want to pick up this awesome TMNT statue, we recommend ordering ASAP. Rocksteady and Krang will be the next figures released in this line, but we don’t know when they will be announced. With New York Toy Fair coming up this weekend, there’s a very real possibility that we might at least see the unpainted villains on display.

Thankfully, even if you’re not currently residing in Japan, chances are that you’ll still have an opportunity to get your hands on this TMNT collectible. Good Smile is currently selling pre-orders for their Shredder statue on Amazon for only $179.99 – which might be a bit more than what you’d pay overseas, but when you factor in the costs of shipment and customs, it’s actually a pretty good deal. There’s a very real possibility that they will continue this practice with their Bebop statue in the coming months, so you don’t necessarily have to worry about pre-ordering these TMNT statues as they are released.

Good Smile Releases Awesome James Jean TMNT Statues

When it comes to artwork in comic books, James Jean has made a name for himself as one of the greatest cover artists of our time. Since he began work with DC Comics in 2001, he has earned six Esiner Awards for his work in the industry. Let’s just say that if you’re writing a comic or graphic novel and you know that Jean is going to do the cover, you are going to feel a mix of both excitement and terror. Why terror? Well, nobody wants to be the writer who screwed up the story behind the work of this creative genius.

Good-Smile-Company-James-Jean-TMNT-Statues-600x541Needless to say, Jean’s work is both highly regarded and sought after, which is probably why the company Good Smile commissioned an art project from him recently. As a matter of fact, they liked his work so much that they decided to make a series of TMNT statues based on the print. These aren’t the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we all know and love, but they are pretty awesome. Jean gives us a much more stylized version of our heroes in a half shell that most fans will truly appreciate.

Typically, collectors items like this are very expensive and cater to wealthier fans, but Good Smile has actually priced each of their TMNT figures fairly. At about $130 per collectible, one can actually imagine saving up their pennies to get one of these awesome James Jean TMNT statues. Of course, they want you to buy all four, so they’ve actually provided an incentive for you to purchase each individual statue: Owners of all four turtles will get a code to receive a free print of the artwork that inspired these beautiful pieces.

While many fans still won’t be able to afford these collectibles, it’s important to note that the price is actually pretty decent considering that there is a relatively high level of detail on each figure, and all four are over ten inches in height. $130 is still a lot of money for most fans, but if you’ve got some extra money saved up, you might want to consider these awesome Ninja Turtles statues for your collection.
