By now, most of us are fully aware that Nickelodeon is in the process of developing a new animated series entitled Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Whether we like it or not, the 2k12 series has come to an end and will be replaced in 2018. Some fans have taken issue with certain elements of the new show, arguing that Raphael should not be the leader of the group. As shocking as this shift in power dynamics may seem for our heroes in a half shell, there is actually another television series in development which could be even more surprising.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rob Paulsen is currently working on a new animated series called “The Gang’s All Here.” This show will star characters voiced by Paulsen, Kevin Conroy and Cal Dodd. If you’re familiar with Rob as the voice of Raphael (1987) and Donatello (2012), something tells me that you’ll have no trouble remembering the work of Kevin as Batman (Batman: The Animated Series) and Cal as Wolverine (X-men: The Animated Series). With so many notable actors on board, how can they go wrong?
“The Gang’s All Here centers on an animal cast of actors as they star in their own films and navigate the pitfalls of the entertainment industry. The team is conceiving of the comedic series to target adults and adolescents.”
This concept isn’t terrible, but it was definitely unexpected. If they are aiming this project at older audiences, chances are that they want to create something along the lines of what we see on Adult Swim. To be honest, it sounds like a combination of a Robot Chicken sketch and Bojack Horseman. Unfortunately, although this project has entered the development phase, nobody has purchased the property as of yet. However, with the level of talent currently on board, chances are that this series is going to get picked up.
“The Gang’s All Here” will be helmed by Andrea Romano, the director and creative mind behind such shows as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spongebob Squarepants, and Teen Titans. Believe it or not, Andrea is actually coming out of retirement to do this project. Screenwriter Byron Burton was the one who came up with the idea for this series, and he has already gone to great lengths in order to make it happen. Only time will tell if this cartoon gets picked up, but with so many new streaming services looking for exclusive content, something tells me that it won’t be long before the plan becomes a reality.
